How About Escobar With Assayas?
I just watched the five and a half hour version of Carlos and I think it is the best movie I've seen in years. Edgar Ramirez was brilliant and should have won the Oscar for best actor earlier this year. Seeing him chubby and mustachioed at the end of the movie, he looked a lot like Pablo Escobar. Since the Joe Carnahan directed version of the Escobar story seems to have fallen through, what do you all think of a different version directed by Olivier Assayas and starring Edgar? This is all just speculation, but I would love to see a three part film on Pablo's life. I've studied gangsters for years and Pablo was the most powerful gangster who ever lived, even more powerful than Lucky Luciano or Al Capone. Escobar killed anyone, judges, politicians, even presidential candidates, anybody who got in his way. If you could tell a five hour plus movie on Carlos the Jackal, you could definitely do the same with Pablo. I'd like to see Ramirez/Assayas become the new DeNiro/Scorsese, Ford/Wayne, or Kurosawa/Mifune. Carlos was an incredible start, but I really hope they work together again, and a Pablo Escobar movie could take them to a whole new level.
