So the trivia says his mother is Swedish, yet there's this personal quote of Joel where he says: "...I have a Jewish mother and five sisters".
Can someone tell me is he Jewish then? Is it just a mistake in the info or what? Cos he doesn't look particularly Jewish to me, looks very Nordic (Swedish).

shareIf your mother is jewish you are jewish. At least you are considered jewish, regardless of religious faith.
I'm aware of that, the question that I was asking was is his mother Jewish or Swedish? If she was Swedish Jewish, she would still look Jewish, yet Joel, in spite of having an American father, has a very distinctive Nordic look so his mother must be Swedish? I'm at a total loss.

His father is American - the last name "Kinnaman" is of Irish origin (Co. Sligo), but many people in America--the midwest especially (Steven was from Indiana)--are of Germanic and Scandinavian ethnic origin. It's absolutely possible that Joel just simply takes after his father. Judaism is a religion, not a Nationality. His mother is a Swedish woman whose religion is Judaism.

Judaism is one of the most ethnically diverse religions.
There is no "Jewish look".
Maybe you refer to the Eastern European group,and ot might surprise to know there are many Black and Asians Jews.
For a small example - check Eric Dane, Scarlett Johansson, Gordon-Levitt, Kat Graham and Bar Refaeli - All kosher, but none answer the stereotype of the "Jewish look".
Judaism is a religion but Jewish is also an ethnicity.
