The Killing, Easy Money, Robocop, Run All Night...this dude is brilliant

As someone who is an avowed Balehead...the Christian Bale page is the only one I have ever posted on. Till now. I was asked to accompany a friend to watch Run All Night a few weeks back and as much as I love Liam Neeson...I didn't really want to go to a theater to watch it. I figured...I'd rent it at some point. But saw I did. And walked out of the theater saying, "Liam, who?" and completely in love with Kinnaman instead. Since then...I've gone on a Kinnaman binge and I just finished watching the final six episodes of The Killing...and man. I am sold. Hook, line and sinker.

This guy is bloody amazing. His range in The Killing is brilliant. He is funny, serious, silly and a dick...and he does it all so well. His Steven Holder is one of the best portrayals on TV and it's a bloody shame that he has been so overlooked with awards and more mainstream attention. It kinda reminds me of how Bale's career played out in the early 2000s. So many amazing performances but it wasn't until The Fighter that he really broke out in the mainstream. Hopefully, Kinnaman will have such a breakout role soon because this dude deserves to be HUGE.

I'm not usually the fan type, but this guy has captured my attention too. Loved him in the Killing and he shows both depth and nuance in all of his roles. There is something very compelling and real about his acting and it never seems theatrical or forced to me; less like an "act" projected out to the audience, and more like a characterization generated from deep within. Very believable and authentic.

I know, right? I've only ever fan-girled Christian Bale. EVER. But man...this dude captured my attention in a matter of days! I absolutely, 100%, fell in love with him in The Killing. I agree with everything you said above, JannieC. His Detective Holder is one of the best characters in recent times. And like you said...extremely authentic. By the final season he just owned the show. Even when he acts a dick (remember the scene with his sister in the final season?) - you see the humanity in his portrayal. This is a white dude from Sweden who patterned Holder as a wannabe rapper, a la Eminem, but who just happens to be a policeman! Imagine how many things that could've gone wrong here. But not once did he strike a false note. He took that very weird character background and made it as authentic as possible even as he did silly, funny, comic, serious, dick...and did it just right.

He needs to be huge.

Ha! You're right. But, No Risk = No Reward.

Indeed!

For sure! This dude steals every scene he's in, especially in 'The Killing'. I sincerely hope they give him the proper screen time in 'Suicide Squad', and not some lame filler character. He's by far the most talented actor of that ensemble(next to Leto of course).

"I sincerely hope they give him the proper screen time in 'Suicide Squad', and not some lame filler character."

Oh, agreed. My only hope is that he took over the part from Tom Hardy and given Hardy's current profile...he wouldn't have accepted a sub-par role. But it is worrisome given that everyone and their grandfather seems to be in the movie! And a lot of them have more visibility in the media than Kinnaman. I hope he doesn't get gypped and they make him, like you said, a 'lame filler' actor. Again, like you, I think he's the best actor in that group - I'm gonna place him even higher than Leto! Sorry!

No offence taken. Leto has been around the block for the past 20 years, which is why I rank him higher. I'm afraid this film will certainly be his to own, simply because of the high profile character status of the Joker and the fact that he's the first to reprise the role since Ledger(big shoes to fill there!). This might be the perfect situation for Kinnaman to elevate himself into superstar status, by out performing the +A listers!

I love Leto too! And you're absolutely right. This movie is HIS for the taking...given he is a terrific actor and who has the arguably the best role in this motley crew. I know some comic book stuff but am afraid know nothing at all about the role that Kinnaman plays in this one. I get that Rick Flagg is the founder of The Suicide Squad but beyond that I wonder what weight he will have in this movie?

Absolutely, man! Absolutely! You know what I just realized? The director - David Ayer - is the same dude who directed Bale (an all-time fav) in what I think is an extremely underrated film and performance by Bale - Harsh Times. I gather that this role was highly coveted by a string of A-listers but Ayer went with Kinnaman when Hardy dropped out. I'm not sure why I think this means something! But I'm hoping it does!
