As much as I love Chris, my vote still goes to Idris Elba. (Even if he thinks he's 'too old'.)

Idris Elba is not too old, he's too black.

When the producers of Bond are signing on a new actor to play James Bond, they are not just thinking of the next movie. They are looking ideally for a 3 or 4 movie commitment. Which means about 10 years. That would make Idris about 53 when it finishes. I know Connery and Moore were about that age when they finished, but they really looked to old for the part by that stage. Also I think Bond is even more physical these days, so even a very fit 50 old would struggle to come off as convincing. In the books Bond is more or less mid 30's to 40 something.
