Of course I do not have any concrete evidence, but I have read that Osama was supposed to have died when his mountain fortress was bombed. Even if he survived that, he was documented as suffering from severe kidney ailments that doctors claimed would have killed him long before the date of the SEAL raid.
Also the supposed footage of Osama that was released in years after 9/11 looks nothing at all like him except they are both middle eastern men with turbans and beards. Add on the facts that the SEALS "threw Osama's body into the sea" unphotographed and that many SEAL team members were soon killed in a suspicious accident, and Obama was in dire need of a popularity boost at the time...
I would not call the SEAL survivors who chose to keep quiet on such a thing cowards. Merely pragmatic. I certainly wouldn't be spilling the beans if I knew the government could snuff me out at will if I talked, especially after most of my teammates had been killed.
(Regarding your question about the GOP allowing Obama to get away with this: at that time, GOP leadership as embodied by McCain and Romney were simply strawman patsies supplying the illusion of a two party system to a politically naive public, putting up feeble token resistance to Democrat initiatives before caving in every time. Operation Neptune Spear was a MASSIVE endeavor most people completely fail to grasp because they do not know anything about how the intelligence and military apparatus works. It's not like they "made up" that OBL is there (with key relatives as well) and then send a hand full of SEALs in to conduct some phony nonsense mission where they also sacrificed one of their fucking stealth helicopters in a foreign country without permission.
CIA, NSA, Navy/Marines, Army, and the according Special Operations centers were involved over YEARS, that's hundreds if not thousands of people despite it all being top secret. Almost everyone read those claims about bin Laden. Which doctors claimed that kidney ailments would have killed bin Laden long before the SEAL raid? Bin Laden was one of the most wanted men in the world, so of course he probably changed his appearance. Bissonnette claimed he dyed his hair and beard. He needed confirmation from his wife and daughter that they got the right guy in the raid. Was that another lie?
What about the claims of O'Neill and Bissonnette? Both are Navy SEAL's who claimed to be part of the group that killed bin Laden. Bissonnette claimed to have to have photographed bin Laden's corpse; was that a lie? Going to tell them to their face that they're liars?

It depends on more than bullet size. Projectile energy plays a larger part in small arm's affect on the body. He was shot in the face, at least once. It should be obvious to the most casual observer that a 5.56 round at close range is going to alter a person's face. Also, his hair was dyed, according to Bissonnette.
If you read any detailed accounts of the raid, you would know that the SEAL's did not have any easy time identifying the body.
