In any case, Joe will pardon Hunter before he leaves office. I originally wondered why this was coming up when these things tend to get swept under the rug, but the answer seems pretty clear - the evidence against may get him indicted in the future if there's a change in regime. Get all the charges out of the way now, get him prosecuted, get him pardoned. Done. The rest of Hunter's life will be free of worry unless he does something else stupid.
I don't think that Republicans care enough about Hunter Biden beyond him being a means to damage the reputation to pursue anything when Biden leaves office, whether after this term or another.
