He sure knows how to make visceral horror

Once I'd like for him to do a psychological horror film for a change.

I thought The Lords Of Salem lacked his usual torture stuff and still delivered a good horror story.

I do admit, I’m a Rob Zombie fan👿👺💀

I've been waiting for something like Lords of Salem.
I really enjoyed Lords of Salem. After getting past the first boring 30 minutes of Adelaid's boring life. That could have been done better I think.

The visuals and the plot were outstanding! It kind of reminded me of The Neon Demon in some ways. Full of color and disturbing and thought provoking imagery.

Extremely creative psychological horror film. It's worth a rewatch.

The cast impressed me. The old school horror movie queens of the 1980s like Meg Foster, Dee Wallace and Patricia Quinn (Magenta from The Rocky Horror Picture Show).

Thank you for your recommendation!

Male horror and thriller directors tend to steer hard into rape scenes and butchery. A bit of that stuff goes a very long way. There should certainly be more female action directors. Kathryn Bigelow directed and won Oscars for The Hurt Locker, one of the best movies ever made about boys at war this side of Full Metal Jacket! Fuck, she left Kubrick in her dust!

Funny, I tend to prefer male driven action stories but hell's bells women can direct men very well on film and very often in life!

reply

Oh I'm not interested in seeing The Hurt Locker. I'm still mad at Katherine for winning best picture and best director that year. James Cameron should have those awards.

The Academy was so woke that year for female directors.

reply

Oh well, I do hope you change your mind some day. The first 30 minutes of Saving Private Ryan and pretty much ALL of Platoon got me rattled and The Hurt Locker is genuinely scary and suspenseful too.

Instant death or disfigurement are only a couple of steps away, buried under six inches of sand and wired to blow.

The ending comes as a surprise, I won’t spoil anything but it really says everything one could about men who go to war and realize they love it and are very good at it.

Lords of Salem is one of the worst movies I've seen. Man, that sucked so friggin hard!

reply

Sorry to hear you didn’t enjoy it.
I’ve always enjoyed spooky movies about evil witch covens, black magic and devil worship.

Any dopey hillbilly can put on a mask and take an axe to a campground full of coeds but the satanic stuff is really frightening imo!

reply

I adore House of 1000 Corpses and I like The Devil's Rejects... his first Halloween was okay too but other than that I don't care for his movies.

reply

I agree. 3 from hell wasn't horrible, but 31 is a turd.

Signed, million man.

reply

Yeah, 31 was a bit of a stinker. I watched it twice because I’m a Zombie fan but yeah, it was not great.
I must say I like that actor Richard Brake, he has a menacing presence on film, he could be an outlaw biker, a serial killer, he really looks like a dangerous maniac!

We all have our favorite matinee idols…Depp, Gylenhaal, DiCaprio, you name ‘em! But I love the character actors best, you know, the guy that plays ‘that guy’ in all of the criminal roles.

reply

He was creepy in Barbarian. Danny Trejo is cool too.

Signed, million man.

reply

Yeah, Trejo is a likable guy, bit of a messed up past but he made up for all that and has walked the line since.

reply

I don't think he's ever made a good movie.
