Saw 'The Perfect Age of Rock 'n' Roll' at CMJ Film Festival in NYC

I attended the screening of The Perfect Age of Rock 'n' Roll at the CMJ Film Festival on Tuesday, October 20 in New York City. It was the Official Opening Night Film.

Within a few hours after arriving back home I had to fly to New Orleans to cover another film festival so I never had the chance to stop by and post about it. As soon as I got back home from there I was thrown into another big project which has consumed my time the last month, so I apologize for not stopping by.

I will definitely post back when I can and talk about the movie and Kevin's performance. I was quite impressed and audiences will find that it's unlike anything he's ever done.

You're so lucky. I've been waiting for a release on this one for a while.

Can I ask some questions?

1. How is Kevin in the film? I predict great...but like, how is it compared to his other performances?

2. Does Kevin sing in the film? Just curious as to whether he really uses his own voice or not.

3. Do you know anything of a release? I heard it's going to DVD in early 2010.

4. How much nudity is there? Is it one of those rock-n-roll movies with lots of nudity or is it PG-13 material? If Kevin shows skin again then I'll be more than happy...lol.

5. Do Kelly Lynch and Lauren Holly have significant roles? I LOVE Lauren Holly especially.

Thanks!

Thanks!

I'll try to keep this spoiler-free.

1) He's very different. For one thing, he's not made up to be all that attractive. In most of his films he's the "pretty boy." Here they had to "ugly him up." The film opens with him being an old aging rocker -- he looks worn out and terrible. Then it flashes back to his musical career but only the end of it, when he was already getting a paunch and looking out of his element. His character is even older than he is in the flashbacks, let alone in the "present day" scenes. You kind of wish he'd wash his hair, keep his shirt buttoned up, and get out of the tight leather pants and into loose jeans.

2) He does sing in the film. In fact, as the director pointed out in the Q&A, the songs weren't even recorded ahead of time and lip synced as in most musicals and performance films. The live segments were actually recorded live. He's a pretty good singer.

3) There is no distribution deal in place for theatrical or DVD yet. So no date anyone has mentioned could be true.

4) I don't usually reveal nudity ahead of time out of respect for the filmmakers and actors. I'm one of those "you'll just have to see it" people. But it's not like Transamerica. There is enough drug use to rule out a PG-13, though.

5) Kelly Lynch doesn't have a lot of screen time (it's a road movie) but her scenes are among the most powerful in the movie. Same goes for Lauren Holly.

I hope that helps!
