Kevin signs on to new project 'Entitled'

Kevin and Ray Liotta are attached to star in Entitled, a thriller from Tennessee director Aaron Woodley about a young man who decides to kidnap three young socialites and hold them to ransom.

It is being pre-sold at the Cannes Film Market, which basically means that they are pitching the idea for the purposes of getting financing to make the film.

UPDATE:

It is now official:
Kevin Zegers ("Transamerica") has signed to star in a pair of indie projects -- college drama "A Great Education" and thriller "Entitled." Thesp will portray an ambitious but poor young man from Indiana who's on scholarship at Harvard, where he begins dating a society girl, portrayed by Emma Roberts. William Mosely and Ben Kingsley also star, with Christopher Keyser directing. Kirk D'Amico and Laurence Mark are set to produce, with Myriad Pictures financing.

For "Entitled," Zegers will topline with Ray Liotta as the ringleader of a ransom plot with several other college students. Aaron Woodley is directing from a script by William Morrissey, with Dave Valleau and Foundation Features ("Capote") producing. Zegers is working on "Vampire," written and directed by Shunji Iwai and produced by Tim Kwok.

Wow. Ray Liotta is a great actor. There is another rumored project called "Vampire" being shopped. Good for him! Zegers is an underrated actor.

Word is that Vampire is currently shooting in Vancouver (see my new thread). Great to see him back working again!

I know there's at least one other project in the works. After the World Premiere of Frozen at the Sundance Film Festival he told me about it, and it was not Entitled or Vampire. Hopefully it can be announced soon.

Thanks Larry! Is this a potential franchise? Not familiar with the premise. Word is they hired a prominent japanese director, looks interesting. Zegers is shooting three films this year? Yes or No?

Shunji Iwai is a very successful filmmaker in Japan. He has 15 features to his credit as a writer and director and/or producer. He wrote 14 of the 15 films. His one foray into American cinema was a segment in the film New York, I Love You. He's won many awards around the world. This is his first film outside Japan.

I don't have information regarding a potential franchise but I suppose all films can be today, especially when they are vampire-related.

Kevin does have at least 3 films that will probably shoot this year. Bonnie and Clyde, Entitled, and Vampire are pretty much confirmed although shooting dates are up in the air. A Great Education isn't beyond rumor stage at this point. Then there's the film he told me about at Sundance which isn't even on his page.

By the way, regarding Entitled -- I have high hopes for it. It has bankable stars and a low budget. I went to the World Premiere of director Aaron Woodley's film Tennessee at the 2008 Tribeca Film Festival. I saw 55 films there that year and I picked it as one of my Top 10. So I definitely have a lot of confidence in the project!

Here is more on Entitled. This is the official synopsis from the production company:
Paul Dynan is a decent, intelligent 24-year-old man. But he is also one of the new generation of young people who have played by the rules, working hard and graduated college – only to find that the certainties of the past are gone. With out a job or future, he plans the perfect crime to redress the balance. He will extort a fortune from three wealthy men, all great friends, who typify the ruling class that made their millions when the going was good – he will abduct their perfect Ivy League children.

Over the course of one long, dark night, Dynan holds these ‘debutantes’ hostage – with little idea of the secret antagonisms that are bubbling poisonously to the surface between their fathers when they are forced to choose between their blood and their money.

He is aided by two nihilistic youths whom he has drawn into his cunning web with the lure of destruction and infamy – so nihilistic that they are unaware of just how perfect Dynan’s crime actually is- for when the night is through they alone will be seen as the perpetrators.

It will be a night in which nothing is quite as it seems, that none of the participants will ever forget, that will change every one of them – and in which Dynan, the puppet-master, will literally get away with murder, unknown to his victims or the authorities – but pay a far greater price. One he had never anticipated.
Kevin plays Paul.
