Did he put on weight for Fifty Dead Men Walking?

I was watching a movie last night with my cousin, Fifty Dead Men Walking. I kept saying "that bloke looks like Kevin Zegers" - but he was much chunkier, i just thought it was a lookalike - it was the eyes! But then after the film was over and the credits rolled - it was! I couldnt believe it!!
Does anyone know if he deliberately put weight on for this role?? Still cant believe it was him, never seen him in this sort of role before either, thats why i didnt think it was him!

I noticed that, too. He was definitely a lot chunkier. And i think it must have been intentionally for this film, because (1) a young film stud like he would never let a weight problem interfere with his image, unless (2) the idea was to differentiate his character from the less mature ones he's played previously.

He actually had to put on weight and build up his muscles for The Narrows. That finished shooting only a few months before Fifty Dead Men Walking. He played a similar character in FDMW so it made more sense to keep it on than to try and lose it, especially with all the stunts and physicality required of the role.

Larry,

You're amazing. You seem to have a p.r. lock on every gorgeous hunk that comes down the pike!
