Kevin on Twitter?

Not sure if it is real:

Thanks Larry! Lot of fake accounts roaming that network.

Any reason as to why he was dropped from BONNIE & CLYDE? It was announced today he's being replace by Sean Faris.

They had delay after delay while he was picking up work, including a 12-part miniseries about the Titanic. There was just too much uncertainty about when, if ever, B&C would get off the ground. At one point B&C was supposed to be filming at the same time so he had to drop out.

That's a relief. I'll pass this along to fans of his, who I know (virtually, so to speak), who are not already aware of this, Larry.

So many fake Celeb sites abound out here, sadly. Still a SHAME that people feel as though they have to pretend to be someone famous. It's so easy to just ID oneself as being a fan who starts a devotional place, isn't it?

Larry, is there any way any clues that you can provide to us about how to tell if someone's profile that we are seeing is fake (apart from the obvious ones, such as questionable updates, lack of a "verified" seal, inarticulateness, and other dead give-aways). Are there clues that might not be so obvious to the average Facebook, and Twitter user??

When I was on Twitter (I've since decamped, feeling the place to be too pithy and brief, amoung other reasons) I always looked for the "verified" seal of approval to help me determine of anyone famous was for real out there. But, now that I am much more devoted to FB, I am hoping that you'll tell us how one can tell if someone's real out there, please. I've been duped a few times, I dare admit.

Thanks, and you ask some very good questions (as always!). You're correct -- Twitter is really not that different from the other sites, in that it's easy to fake someone and hard to prove their authenticity.

In the case of Twitter, the easiest thing to do is to see who they tweet @ and who tweets @ them. For example, Kevin tweeted @ (and was tweeted @ by) his Transamerica co-star and friend Felicity Huffman. Now, it's also possible that even if they are tweeting @ (or are tweeted @ by) another celeb that THAT "celeb" is also a fake. So you have to continue investigating. In her case, she is verified. That said, it's possible SHE might be fooled, also, although one would think she'd do some checking of her own first.

But he also tweeted @ one of his old co-stars, who is not nearly as well-known as Ms. Huffman, who also happens to be a very good friend of mine. In that case, I was able to simply ask my friend if it was real and he believed it was. But, more importantly, although someone faking Kevin might think to tweet @ Felicity (although it would be a stupid thing to do for a faker) I doubt that anyone faking Kevin would also know about this other actor being a friend of his. That's what sealed the deal for me.

Sometimes you just have to use some reverse psychology. A faker would probably exaggerate what they're doing and who they know. They might "over-celebritize" their tweets. A real actor would probably post more innocuous, less interesting tweets, that don't shout out, "look at me, I'm famous!"

It also helps to see who they follow. For example, a recent "celeb" Twitter was uncovered as being fake (by me, in fact) when I noticed that their first 10 follows (not following them, but who they follow) were all Justin Bieber fansites. Not something this particular actor would do.

For every good question that you tell me I ask, your answers are ALWAYS even more helpful, as I know they would be! Very interesting input you offer. I will print out your response and take it under advisement.

THANK you, my friend.

Oh, and may I wish you a Happy Hannukah, Larry? I am assuming you are a Jew based upon your name, but, if I am wrong then may I wish you a Merry X-mas, instead, please?

I'd love to friend you on FB. If you are game / up for this and on there, you can message me. If not, I will be understanding.

UPDATE: Kevin and I have a mutual friend (another well-known actor). This friend now tells me he thinks we may have both been fooled here.

Neither of us has been able to speak directly with Kevin about this. Stay tuned...

Oh, dear ... Or moreover, Lord Have Mercy Me ...

Larry being fooled, and/or duped happens to the best of we all, I dare say.
I have lost count of how many times I have been .
Then again, I am perhaps more impressionable and far less knowledgeable about The Industry than are a lot of the folks ...

And so, the Saga continues, doesn't it?

That is precisely why I am ever more so suspicious of any Celeb facebook accounts, and so forth that purport to be who they are not.

I tried to get FB to take down an obviously fake Elisha Cuthbert account, but all I got from having tried to do that was that this so-called Ms. Cuthbert de-friended me. Oh, well ... at least I tried. I don't regret that.

I'll bet there are imposters pretending to be YOU, out in Cyber-Land, Larry.

It wouldn't be the first time I've seen someone actually fooled by a personal friend of theirs. Unless it comes up in a conversation outside Twitter (face-to-face, phone, text, email) they might never know.

Many celebs now use Twitter as a means of communication with their friends/castmates. "hey dude, whatcha doin tonite?" "oh not much just chillin w the rents."

I'm surprised at how many celebs actually use Twitter the way they used to call, email, or text. It almost feels voyeuristic reading their conversations (it's hard to avoid when you're following them, or even one side of it).

So it's not hard to imagine that a celeb (or non-celeb, for that matter, although non-celebs are rarely faked) might tweet back and forth with someone they know in real life and the person doesn't even know it's a fake.

It's even worse when a group of fakers gets together to impersonate family members or friends (role playing). For example, a celeb might be seen tweeting to his mother, brother sister, etc. and they all tweet each other, yet they may all be fake. And not all celebs are verified, so that isn't the way to tell.

That said, if anyone is pretending to be me, I just hope they're pillars of the community.
