Surprised by Jesse Williams BET Speech

I am surprised by Jesse Williams BET speech because in the last few years all I heard is mixed race people say to let them identify how they seem themselves. The tennis player Madison Keys she is biracial said she does NOT see herself as black and only wants to be seen as Madison. So I am surprised a biracial man Jesse Williams feels this way. Am I the only one who is surprised? I have read about some mixed race people and from what I have heard plenty of them have distanced themselves being called or considered black. I also do not agree with black people who think we need to LUMP mixed race people with the black struggle. Nobody likes Tiger Woods these days I notice and Tiger Woods is darker than Jesse Williams. Yet Tiger Woods has made it clear he is a biracial man of Asian heritage he never considered himself black. And I agree that since Tiger Woods is biracial he can see himself however he wants to identify. BUT I find Jesse Williams interesting the man is clearly mixed race yet so passionate about the black American struggle.

Jesse identifies with the Black community as do many mixed folks. There's nothing "surprising" about it.

Madison Keys was probably raised primarily by a white mother, plays a white sport, her best friends are probably white, and I'm willing to bet that she has a "white' inflection in her voice. A lot of black people probably want to throw this, "you're black" thing on her, and she's havin none of it. More power to her. We are all individuals. On the otherhand, this Jesse Williams knucklehead has been brainwashed by a powerful black influence, I'm guessing his black wife, and maybe a few others. Thus, he probably has so much liberal white guilt up his ass it's coming out of his mouth. It's ashame, because he could have said something a little more even and balanced, instead of this it's all the police officers fault. I mean, we need police, don't we? They're not all bad.... What a knucklehead!

I believe Aryn is of mixed heritage, herself.

LOL at this post.

First off, Who is Aryn? And secondly, you can laugh all you want, that means nothing. If you can prove that ANYTHING I state is wrong - which, trust me, you can't - then you've done something.

Aryn Drake-Lee is his wife's name. I thought we all knew who we were speaking about.

Something was mentioned about his 'black wife brainwashing him'.

I heard she was of mixed heritage too. Plus, they met when he was already a teacher and I'm assuming had developed his own ideas.

reply

She maybe of mixed heritage, but two things: She looks all black, and she's darker than him. That may sound trivial at first, but considering what he said, and just in general, it's very significant.

No, it is not. But you're entitled to your opinions.

Yes it is, Ms high yellow woman. I want you to think about something, because I know I'm more knowledgeable about this than you are. How often do you see a black man married to a woman who is darker than he is? It's usually the other way around, now isn't it? I know pride is fkn with you, but you can admit the truth. Black men consider women of your complexion some sort of prize, and look down on dark skinned women. If you were immersed in our culture, like maybe you think you are, you'd know that. I can probably count on my fingers how many times I've seen a light skinned man married to a dark skinned woman. Former lead singer of the group "Heat Wave". Johnnie Wilder Jr, strangely enough, comes to mind. But he is the only one I can think of at the moment. It seldom happens. You don't think that signifies anything?
