Why didn't this guy have a film career?

Been watching NCIS for a while now and Weatherly really does a great job as DiNozzo. It got me thinking, call it a hunch, but he seems like an actor who could have made it big - he comes across really well in front of the camera.

So why didn't his film career take off?

He went straight from Dark Angel to NCIS and he's been locked up ever since. There's not time to do both a weekly drama and build a Hollywood career. But I agree, he could have been a A-list star.

TV contracts get bought out all the time so his Dark Angel/NCIS contracts shouldn't have been an issue had the right people shown interest in him for a film role. Characters come and go for various reasons.

Another problem is he's now built up a well-known role in one of the most popular TV shows of all time. It's going to be hard for him to re-establish himself. 6 years is a long time in one role, perhaps too long?

I guess if he enjoys it and the money's good then fair enough, but if it turns out he is turning down film opportunities to carry on in what is now becoming (in my opinion) a rather tired TV show, he may one day regret it.

Or it could just be that film makers haven't shown interest, but I find that hard to believe.

Thanks for stating the obvious. That really helped.

Well, I think it's pretty obvious it was an open question about Weatherley's presence on camera and to perhaps kick off some discussion about his abilities, so we can ponder some of the reasons why he hasn't appeared in more films.

Questioning the 'validity' of my opening post is...slightly bizarre. Obviously I'm aware it's not easy for TV actors to break into film, but I just get the feeling Weatherley could have done so with his abilities.

But if you rather every single thread on this forum was a simple black&white/yes/no with no discussion then I guess that's fine.
