he is half-austrian (mother) and half-german (father).
and though he has also a german passport,
he is still more an austrian,
cause he is born in vienna/austria and he grew up there...
(though he got the austrian passport quite late,
maybe it wasnt that important for him,
cause it makes not a huge difference when you live already there)
his mother is (like him) also born in vienna austria,
so is her mother, his grandmother.
just his grandfather had an slovenian surname,
which also doesnt mean that this one was slovenian.
(in austria a lot of people have foreign surnames cause of the multicultural past of austria as a huge empire
and vienna as a meltpot of nationalities)
so maybe, just MAYBE he is 1/8 slovenian,
but in austria noone thinks about the roots in their family.
parents generation is enough
quite funny is, that michael haneke (most important austrian director today)
"share" the stepfather with christoph waltz.
