You're not the only one. He's called Christopher by reporters and the media a lot but his name is Christoph indeed. I'm sure he's ok with being called Chris if you're nice. 

though in austria the shortversion chris is not common for people in his age.

in austria (and germany and switzerland) we have both names: christopher and christoph

It's okay man, I always thought it was Christopher until I was looking something up about Spectre.

People are stupid. Their eyes just see the start of someone's name and assume it's the most common name beginning with those letters and don't for once think it might be something else but similar. Same with people spelling Ramsay as Ramsey, etc.
