why is his accent so different from Schwarzenegger's?

Are accents within the country very diversified? Btw, I don't know anything at all about the nuances of how German is spoken, but it was a real treat watching Arnold use it in The Escape Plan.

As an Austrian I can tell you that there are a lot of dialects in Austria. Every dialect influences the pronunciation of a foreign language differently. Arnold is from a region with a very unique and strong dialect. Even other Austrians make fun of the people from there because of the way they speak! [laugh] Christoph grew up in Vienna and so he's able to speak clearer English than Arnie. But remember, the success of Arnold is largely based on the way he talks! [wink]

Yeah, even to people from Germany Arnold's accent sounds funny. There are huge differences. It's like comparing a Scottish accent with a Cockney accent or a Texan accent with a New York accent.

Even in Germany Christoph Waltz austrian accend appears light and melodic with a tad of arrogance (which was cultivated by the pop singer Falco to an annoying degree), really a lot like when he is speaking english. But this way of talking is also his trademark. The first time I noticed him in A King for Burning he already had this unique way of pronouncing the words and the same kind of charisma which would later earn him the Oscar.

I'm sure there are different dialects or whatever but the sad truth is that Arnold is not as intelligent as Christoph. He became famous because of his muscles not because of his incredible acting skills. Waltz is a real actor and it shows.

Waltz is obviously very good with languages, I think its easier for someone like him to switch over to a more British accent than it is for Schwarzenegger, which honestly doesnt seem too bright.
