How do the Wachowskis still keep getting hired?

This is not a hate post & I'm not here to attack 'em. But people keep wondering how M Night Shyamalan still has a career but that's nothing compared to the Wachowskis in my opinion. Shyamalan's films aren't really that huge. Budget wise

The Wachowskis last THREE big movies ALL bombed. From Speed Racer to Cloud Atlas & Jupiter Ascending. And we're not talking about small, indie projects. These cost literally hundreds of millions to make

Some be like, "It's cause they're Trans". Surely that can't be it. I mean they haven't directed a successful film since The Matrix films almost 2 decades ago. Yet, they still keep getting offered 100-200m dollar projects.

reply

I guess it's because The Matrix trilogy was a extremely succesful franchise with a huge fanbase?

Just like Shyamalan, I consider them one hit wonders. They only had one good idea in them.

reply

So they're getting hired cause they made something huge 20 decades ago?

Wow, someone definitely doesn't mind losing their money. Cause as I said, all their big budget films ever since them have all bombed

reply

They probably have friends in high places as well.🤷‍♀️

But I'm not sure if anyone would've invested that much money if their next movie had NOT been a Matrix movie. I mean, Jupiter Ascending is already from 6 years ago.

reply

So they are over 200 years old.

reply

Dammit. My bad. 😆

reply

They created The Matrix trilogy, which understandly gave them a lot of clout

Btw, M. Night Shyamalan keeps getting work because virtually everything he does is a hit. Just because he hasn't had a hit the level of The Sixth Sense but once doesn't mean he's a one hit wonder

reply

All three of the movies you say "bombed" earned more revenue than was spent on their budgets, they did not lose one single dollar on any of them.

You also conveniently left out V for Vendetta, a massive commercial and critical success that they wrote, produced, and directed most of, uncredited.

reply

For a film to "make profit", it has to make double the budget at the box office.

reply

Sense8 was a great series.

reply

I'd be more excited to see a Shyamalan movie than a Wachowski movie. The Wachowskis are still living off their Matrix hype.

reply

Something that I leaned recently is that Shyamalan actually finances a bunch of his projects. And he rarely makes big budget features.

Love him or hate him, at least he's doing (mostly) original movies. I appreciate an actual swing at something. Hit or miss.

Lowkey looking forward to ''Trap'' this year.

reply

You're right. At least Shyamalan tries something. It may miss, but you can see what his intentions were. He relies on actual storytelling. Wachowskis rely on visual effects.

reply

After that 4rth Matrix crapfest i'm surprised anyone would want to hire them.

reply

Because the first Matrix really was that good.

reply

Enough to give them clout for the rest of their careers, apparently.
