"Marvel films turned us into zombies"

This statement from him struck me recently and I gotta admit he's made a pretty good point. I feel like at this point, not all but most Marvel fans have just become so corrupt now to the point where they just overlook other films and franchises but Marvel. It's almost like you can take a poster for an upcoming film, slap a marvel studios logo on it and the publicity for it would just be insane.

I myself am a Marvel fan as well and I'm honestly feeling that sort of fatigue of just so many Marvel content releasing in the same year, although I did enjoy Shang Chi quite a bit but honestly only like maybe 5 or a little more of those films really stood out to me. It's a shame that Dune has only made like 40 million in its opening weekend while many mediocre Marvel films make so much more.

I also really hope Denis makes a Bond film one day.

I'd rather watch the worst Marvel film than sit through one of his crapfests again.

Almost all of his films have been amazing. Dune, 2049, Prisoners, Sicario, Arrival, & Incendies are all amazing films. I don't know what you mean about "crap fests"

reply

Maybe 'crapfests' is too strong for all of them. But Arrival was horrible, the worst film of the last decade, I hate that film so much. Blade Runner 2049 was a great looking boring film, whose only real benefit was making the Ridley Scott film look better. Sicario should have been compelling. It wasn't. I haven't seen all his films. And I probably won't. But if you like him, then great for you! Unless he adapts The Forever War, which likely won't happen, I doubt I will waste my time and money on him again. And he would probably screw up The Forever War, too.

I don't know. I'm gonna have to disagree with you there. Arrival I can see it being a hit or miss with some people but I wouldn't go as far as saying it's horrible. 2049 can be seen as "boring" but you have to look at that film from a well made technical driven standpoint and not an action pack popcorn flick. And Sicario I found to be very compelling and intriguing. Denis films are different and you have to go into these films with an open mind.

If you don't like his style, I strongly recommend Prisoners. That's probably his most different film out of all the ones he's made so far.

👍

I really like his films.

Did a fine job on the update of Blade Runner and I was impressed with the new Dune.

His films let the viewer think a little along with the film, not all action.

Unfortunately Tic/Toc other new distractions have seriously shortened the attention span of the average viewer, who need the dopamine rush of action every 5 minutes.

It nice to see a director who still cares about the viewers who like to think along with the film.

That's exactly what I admire the most from him. He treats us audience as if we are smart and actually appreciate the full craftsmanship of filmmaking when it comes to script, acting, cinematography, production design, music, etc.

I absolutely agree. It's practically most social media platforms and popcorn films like Fast and Furious and a majority of the MCU are one of the reasons why peoples attention span has been so low and therefore genuinely great films like Dune and Blade Runner 2049 either gets overlooked or heavily criticized for not being such fast paced action packed blockbusters.
