Your new AG Pam Bondi!

Pam Bondi, the former Florida attorney general, was chosen by Donald Trump to serve as U.S. attorney general.

Dems are furious because they say she is too beautiful. Crypt Keeper Nancy Pelosi vows to steal her beauty with forced blood transfusions.

reply

She was a professional lawyer and a registered lobbyist, she did not have an axe to grind, and unlikely to start a bloodbath.

I think she is the compromise candidate between republicans and democrats, and acceptable to Trump since she was one of Trump's defense lawyers, more than competent enough to get rid of lawsuits related to Trump.

reply

I think Pam Bondi was Trump's pick for AG from the get-go. He cooked up a deal with Matt Gaetz to withdraw a pre-determined number of days after appointing him. Gaetz was never going to be Attorney General, and I don't think he ever wanted to be AG. It was all political theater. This was Trump's way of showing Republican senators (like Susan Collins): "Be thankful for my mercy, and you better just rush Bondi in as AG." Gaetz will be compensated in some other way down the line; he was a good little Trumpian soldier during the transition period.

reply

It is possible, but I doubt it.

Matt Gaetz withdrew, not Trump changed his mind, that is not a win for Trump. The nomination did not fail, so that is not a big loss either.

Matt Gaetz still has lawsuits against him, if he made a deal then democrats must have been involved, that was the basis of my thinking.

Matt Gaetz is going to be OK either way, but being pardoned is not as good as the charges being dropped.

We can see how Matt Gaetz's lawsuit goes to see if that was the case. If his lawsuits were somehow settled than my guess would be more likely.

If Matt Gaetz is still charged and Trump pardons him, then your theory is probably true.

reply

Pam Bondi is an excellent choice since Gaetz dropped out. I hope she is tough enough to wade through all the crap that will be tossed in her face.

reply

I think he knew spineless Republican senators like Susan Collins would vote Gaetz in, but they would appear extremely weak in doing so. Collins et. al. wouldn't like that. Trump saved what little integrity they have left by not forcing them to vote on a Gaetz confirmation. Selecting Bondi makes Trump look reasonable. Compared to Gaetz, Bondi has practically no baggage. That should make for a smooth confirmation hearing with no senators appearing as rubber stamps for Trump. I'm reminded of that scene in Defending Your Life where Meryl Streep's lawyer, the prosecutor, and the judges return to watch more heroic moments from her life just for fun; the decision for her to advance to the next realm is a foregone conclusion. If you accept the initial premise that Trump and Gaetz conspired to do this from the get-go, you see that it's a win-win situation for all involved. Just not necessarily for the American people.

reply

Bondi was opposed to the ACA, especially the provisions that prohibited insurance companies to charging more for people with pre-existing conditions or denying them coverage all together.

Bondi supported Trump's claims of wide spread voter fraud in the 2020 election, but had zero evidence to support those claims. An AG should have more spine.

Bondi is a registered foreign agent for Qatar. She should not be our AG.

reply

Wow. When you put it that way, it sounds like she is just another Trump P.O.S. grifter/groupie put into high office.

reply

Want some fun? Say her name is a Welsh accent.

reply

She can welsh me any day!

reply

total hawtness!

Any foreign agent is a terrible choice for the top law enforcement official in the country. But her selection is fitting given that Trump is an unregistered agent of Russia.

She also lobbied for a Kuwaiti firm, according to Justice Department foreign agent filings and congressional lobbying documents. She registered as a foreign agent for the government of Qatar; her work was related to anti-human-trafficking efforts leading up to the World Cup, held in 2022.

Bondi also represented the KGL Investment Company KSCC, a Kuwaiti firm also known as KGLI, lobbying the White House, National Security Council, State Department and Congress on immigration policy, human rights and economic sanctions issues.

Trump cut a $25,000 check to a political committee supporting Bondi from his family’s charitable foundation, in violation of legal prohibitions against charities supporting partisan political activities. After the check came in, Bondi’s office nixed suing Trump’s company for fraud, citing insufficient grounds to proceed.

Both Trump and Bondi denied wrongdoing, the state’s ethics commission tossed the complaints and a prosecutor assigned by then-GOP Gov. Rick Scott determined there was insufficient evidence to support bribery charges over the donation.
