It's classic despotic behaviour. He is a keen supporter of removing sections of due process, like courts and judges, and demonised people who exercise their constitutional rights which are enshrined to ensure that everyone at least has access to the same freedoms and liberties, and then he hides behind the constitution and will be relying on the process to save him. Just as well for him he wasn't able to get rid of due process or he would be in even deep trouble right now.
