Mr. Mueller's investigation showed signs of lasting for several more MONTHS. Suddenly, Barr (a known Trump fan and critic of Mr. Mueller's investigation) is suddenly installed and has rather shady answers when people asked him about how he would conduct himself in regards to this investigation. Suddenly, the probe just abruptly ends and Mueller already has a report whipped out. In turn, Barr already has a four-page "summary" whipped up and ready to go two days later.
Wasn't Mueller's report stated to be around 800 pages or so?
This reeks. Either Barr was micromanaging the probe (like many of us thought he would) or he already had this "summary" fired up and ready to send well before Mueller ended the probe.
Something doesn't smell right here. At all.
I will accept Mr. Mueller's findings from his report. I can't accept this lousy "summary". I especially find it all the more curious that Trump is bending over backwards to keep the report from seeing the light of day in the public.
Another baffling question is how do we explain the favorable plea deals Mueller gave to Flynn, Gates, Cohen, and even (momentarily) Manafort? The presumption was that they got radically reduced time because of the invaluable information they were giving that would involve prosecution of people up the food chain. But if there are no such prosecutions, if the whole investigation just fizzled out, that seems like odd prosecutorial judgment. What did Mueller get out of those deals that we were redacted from learning about?
It is a standard practice to offer reduced charges and favorable sentencing recommendations in exchange for an admission of guilt and cooperation with the government's ongoing investigations, whatever the ultimate value of that cooperation. It saves the government time, expense and guarantees a conviction.
We learned Gates was providing testimony in 3 cases and Flynn in 3 other cases that we never learned about. This was the reason granted a 60 day extension for Gates sentencing about a week ago.
There were a ton of redactions still in all the cases filed in last month, if they were wrapping up and there was no criminal liability for higher ups there would not be those redactions.
None of it adds up. Now the narrative is dramatically shifting from Trump saying: "I want the report to be made public" to his lawyers suddenly proclaiming they will "fight aggressively" to keep his answers to Mueller confidential. What's a lawyer's job? To represent and PROTECT their client..What are they trying to PROTECT Trump from here?
And that pretty much tells us all we need to know. The report is DAMNING and they know it. You don't cover up a report that exonerates you. And where's Mueller in all this?
Here's where we get to see what Mr Mueller is made of.
Is he really going to let Barr get away with bigfooting him? You read all the public hagiographies about Mueller and you think no way, but the more time goes by with his silence the more it just makes him look more cowardly. The way this looks right now I'm already seeing some clinks in his armor. Namely, how big does Mueller feel by locking up Michael Cohen for lying to Congress when Don Jr. does the EXACT same thing the very following day and he does not indict Don Jr? We have to assume it was because Mueller was afraid of the repercussions which really has me second guessing if all the public hero worship about him was bullshit. That's pretty cowardly for a by-the-book "heroic" FBI director, prosecutor, and lawman.
It's just too odd that, as soon as Barr is confirmed, the probe's momentum suddenly slows to a full stop and things are "wrapping up" seemingly out of nowhere. We all knew what Barr was installed for and, sure enough, it's playing out exactly that way to the letter.
What we are going to learn will throw the nation into chaos. Mueller was trying to subpoena Trump, Trump Jr, and Ivanka about 4 weeks ago. He met with Barr (a long standing Republican operative and cover-up man from Iran-Contra) to discuss the subpoenas. Barr refused and instead ordered Mueller to end the investigation, write his report, and wrap up immediately. Mueller was NOT done! It was very unusual for Mueller to shut things down with the likes of Roger Stone still to be prosecuted.
Bill Barr stopped the investigation just as he promised to Trump when he was being considered for AG. You could see this coming if you know Bill Barr, but especially now that we know Trump. The guy does not do subtlety and if there's one thing we can be sure he knew is after the Jeff Sessions and Matthew Whitaker debacles, he was not going to nominate anyone who he didn't personally screen face to face first with his mobby "loyalty test" we know pulls on his hires described by Comey, Andy McCabe, and Preet Bharara. He would try to draw each one of them into his web-of-trust promising in exchange his "protection". No way he didn't have a heart-to-heart with Barr and spelled out exactly what he expected of him with Barr embracing his new consigliere role for the president. Trump had finally found his Roy Cohn . He'd reincarnated as the duplicitous Barr, the guy he believes will protect him like Bobby did Jack. And Barr is ready, or else why would he take on such a suicidal role? Barr wants the glory of riding in as Trump's right hand man and facilitating Trump's dictatorship while he sits in the cockpit of power as hand-of-the-king. If that sounds crazy, consider what he's doing now where he's using the courts to dismantle Obamacare altogether. The guy is not just evil but he's very VERY administratively competent. He's not a rank amateur unlike all the rest of the dipshit schlubs that surround Trump.
Meanwhile Adam Schiff appears to have reached out to Mueller and I suspect he knows all this. If Mueller is anywhere close being the man we've read about, he is not about to stand down or tolerate Barr trying to put a muzzle on him. We wait in suspense for the inevitable fireworks.
If Barr is indeed subverting his intentions it is incumbent on Mueller to clarify. Unwillingness to do so either indicates he's in agreement with Barr’s summary or that he doesn’t want to stick his neck out. The latter would destroy his heroic public image. It'd be in essence exposing his cowardice. I'm betting on Mueller taking on the heroic role and standing up for what is right, and out-thinking Barr as to how he's going to out-duel him. I will turn into a BITTER cynic should he turn out to be a coward or complicit in burying his own report, I just can't believe that at this stage.
You're probably right and that just makes it all the more...sad, really. Sad and worrisome for how much more the orange cretin will be able to get away with.
If Adam Schiff is not given the entire report and all supporting materials WITHOUT redactions then this entire exercise is bullshit. Period. This is not negotiable.
There is no legitimate reason why the Intel Committee chair who has all requisite security clearances and is a member of the Gang of Eight who is normally provided full access to extremely sensitive security related and intelligence information, cannot scrutinize the entire report.
The Mueller report itself undoubtedly has an executive summary that is much shorter than 800 pages. I suspect the Attorney General's statement was drawn from that summary.
Not so much "drawn from that summary" as cherry-picked from it. Eighty-four words from the voluminous Mueller report is all that was quoted, and many of them were just a few word quotes, or partial sentences that conveniently cut-off the parts that gave the quote context.
So far, the whole initial "release" of the Mueller report appears to further bolster the case of obstruction of justice.
