Two thirds of Americans agree with Trump that NFL players should stand and be respectful during the national anthem

NFL commits SJW suicide! Not only do spectators boo the NFL protestors, they also watch less games.

http://remingtonresearchgroup.com/

Most Americans, 51%, say they have watched less football this year compared to the past. Of respondents who said they have watched less football this year, 69% cite their reason as players using the NFL as a stage for their political views.

Almost two-thirds of Americans, 64%, state that NFL players should stand and be respectful during the national anthem while 24% of Americans do not believe players should stand and be respectful during the national anthem.

By party affiliation, 91% of Republicans, 60% of Non-Partisans and 43% of Democrats believe players should stand and be respectful during the national anthem. Among Democrats, 41% do not believe players should stand and be respectful during the national anthem.

meaningless poll since the sentiment doesn't reflect the reality.

Also, a majority of Americans believe that drinking and driving is wrong, yet a majority who feel that way have driven drunk.

The ratings for some NFL games were down but it's mostly due to the match itself and who was playing. Inter-conference games rated higher due to historic rivalries.

Furthermore, TV ratings are down across the board for EVERYTHING, not just NFL games as more people find other activities to engage in instead of scheduled network programming. Younger people in particular are less likely to watch TV the same way their older siblings or parents did 20 years ago

"meaningless poll since the sentiment doesn't reflect the reality"
Non sequitur.

"Also, a majority of Americans believe that drinking and driving is wrong, yet a majority who feel that way have driven drunk."
Straw man argument.

"The ratings for some NFL games were down but it's mostly due to the match itself and who was playing. Inter-conference games rated higher due to historic rivalries."
Ratings are still comparitivly low. Last years ratings were down and the NFL blamed the election. This years ratings are low and they tried to blame hurricains. No one wants the NFL to dry out but I I admit I was a casual watcher of the games but folks like me dont feel like watching this nonsense unfold. Ratings were already going low as people arn't watching television as much so this is the wrong time for the NFL to be alienating half of america.

"Furthermore, TV ratings are down across the board for EVERYTHING, not just NFL games as more people find other activities to engage in instead of scheduled network programming"
Exactly which is why the NFL needs to stop acting political as they've just disrespected half of america already. Possibly more since even most americans recognize the problems america has but not enough to respect players who publicly shame their own country. I find it dumb that some teams took a vote and are forcing even patriotic players to kneel or stay in the locker room during the anthem.

The NFL doesn't have to acquiesce to political right wing rants, and from the looks of things it isn't going to any time soon.

reply

And the right wing doesn't have to watch football either.

reply

But they do

reply

Yet the rating are dwindling down.

reply

they'll dwindle back up. They've dropped before too, and Trump can't focus on just one enemy every two weeks as well.

"they'll dwindle back up. They've dropped before too, and Trump can't focus on just one enemy every two weeks as well."
Trumps an ass hole but so are the NFL players for disrespecting their country.

reply

Yeah, okay. That doesn't mean that the NFL is "going away" though.

I'll give Trump credit for deflecting and raising ire over a pretty much meaningless subject.

Let me explain why your statistic shouldn't be a defense for conformity.

The constitution was never meant to protect the popular or majority because they don't need protection from persecution. It was the unpopular and minority view that needed protection.

Example 1: No one is going to throw me in prison if I practice Christianity. But, what if I practice Wicca which is unpopular and a religion followed by the few? In other countries, a Wiccan could be killed or thrown in prison. In the U.S., there is freedom of religion which protects them. (except during the Salem witchhunts).

Example 2: In other countries, if you insult the leader, you could find yourself in prison. No freedom of expression nor speech.

Example 3: If I owned a newspaper and wrote insulting comments about the leader or against the leaders' policies, I could be thrown in prison or killed. In the U.S., there is freedom of the press.

"...a stage for their political views. "
I'm glad you mentioned this. The National Anthem has nothing to do with playing a sport. If you don't want politics in sports, then it could always be removed. Otherwise, people are going to be political.

If you really want to be patriotic and proAmerican, then you should respect The Constitution which allows freedoms of expression and speech that you may not personally agree with. I can't stomach the KKK and Nazis, but I was against their website being taken down because it's censorship.

Besides, if you make someone stand during the national anthem, then it really loses all meaning. They should also be allowed to protest.

Too bad that people complaining about the protestors aren't as vocal against racism which is the origin of the protests. Trump has more problems with black NFL players protesting racism than he does with his Nazi friends who he considers fine people.

Witch hunts rekindled in the 80's & 90's.

I'm not arguing, just adding to your post.

Very disturbing articles.

As long as the headline is anything other than CTE...the NFL is happy.

Exactly---and trumpf is only using the issue to distract from the fact that he's still being investigated by the FBI about the Russian collusion, plus the fact that he's been in office 9 months, and still has nothing he can point to and say that he's actually accomplished. That's the only reason he jumped on the kneeling-during-the-national anthem bandwagon. I think this is all a big damn deal about nothing---the whole kneeling thing---who the hell cares whether you stand up for the flag during the national anthem (which was written by a slavemaster, btw) which most people can't even remember past the first couple of verses anyway. I'm sure there have been plenty of people who haven't stood for the national anthem from time to time, it's just that nobody gave a damn because they weren't famous athletes, that's all.

reply

And the media falls for his distractions every time.

NFL's own rules say they "should" stand which means it's a choice. NFL could easily return to 2009 prior policy in which players didn't need to be on the sidelines during the National Anthem.

Meanwhile, the idiot in the White House spent more time tweeting about the NFL than about Puerto Rico. Another Trump failure except I really believe that bigot didn't want to help them because he hates Hispanics. The rebel in me is hoping that Puerto Ricans who need to leave the island will move to swing states where their votes will matter the most in upcoming elections.

reply

Except ratings this past weekend actually went up.....

Facts, try them.

reply

expect to see Trump surrogates argue that they're down by highlighting low-rated games involving crappy teams like The Colts, Jacksonville, or The Browns.

reply

Anything to fit the narrative, right?
Not to mention, ratings have been steadily declining ever since Red Zone and Draft Kings became popular.
