Expose: On Leaving the SJW Cult and Finding Myself

Good article on the ctrl-left SJW cult: https://medium.com/@KeriSmith/on-leaving-the-sjw-cult-and-finding-myself-1a6769b2f1ff

I see increasing numbers of so-called liberals cheering censorship and defending violence as a response to speech. I see seemingly reasonable people wishing death on others and laughing at escalating suicide and addiction rates of the white working class. I see liberal think pieces written in opposition to expressing empathy or civility in interactions with those with whom we disagree. I see 63 million Trump voters written off as “nazis” who are okay to target with physical violence. I see concepts like equality and justice being used as a mask for resentful, murderous rage.

I have been wondering why more people on the left are not speaking up against violence, in favor of free exchange of ideas and dialogue, in favor of compassion. But I know why. I was in the cult. Part of it is that you are a true believer, and part of it is that you are fearful of being called an apostate — in being trashed as a sexist, racist, homophobic, transphobic, Islamophobic, xenophobic, fascist, white supremacist nazi. A friend recently wrote to me privately to say they find my latest posts “refreshing,” and that they believe in free speech, but as someone who works in entertainment, they can’t say anything that might cause them to lose their job. As someone who has gone through and is still going through a change in my underlying systems of belief, I can say this: when you finally get past fear, it is so liberating. After a lot of self-reflection, I eventually came to the opinion that if I lose friends or jobs over trying to speak and find the truth in situations, and to do so in a way that reflects my belief in compassion, then perhaps those were not friends or jobs that were healthy for my growth.

The left or the right, they both have their circle of friends and peer pressure to toe the party line. Yes, the majority of the left were idiots when dealing with trump supporters. Calling people names isnt going to convince anyone of your argument. And yes, people did feel like they couldnt say anything. Look at the poll numbers as evidence of that. Trumped looked to have lost to smug hilary, yet the numbers didnt tell the truth because people didnt speak out for fear of being attacked as racist or whatever.

Unfortunately the left still hasnt learned that lesson. They are still name calling, still not bothering with context and labelling people as racist, sexist or whatever else because of a single word in some cases. This has to stop. The only way you are going to convince a trump voter that trump is not the one they are looking for is with debate. The left is going to have to take the time to engage with people that think a different way to them. But that leads us to the next problem, the right are exactly the same. They terrorise and name call every bit as much as the left. There are no good guys in this fight. Calling the left a cult is just another way to antagonise them and its going to help get the conversation where it needs to go.

At some point all of you are going to have t get used to that fact the whats best for everyone is somewhere in the middle, and that the world doesnt revolve around you. America is a big fucking place and whats good for the new yorks and las doesnt mean its good for wisconsions or the wyomings. Different parts f the country need different things and a lot of the politicians dont seem to care about the "little" states. Whether the left whats to admit it or not, the "little" states felt marginalized and trump was who was listening to them. It was the lefts job to counter that with a reasoned argument not name calling. Everyone failed last year. Now is the time to learn and to debate. Not continue just being dicks to eachother.

Dallas:
It goes both ways. You right wingers need to stop fckg screaming, throwing a damn fit, and calling anybody who dosen't think like you stupid-a** names like "libtards" and ask yourselves why you voted for an ignorant, arrogant man who is clearly unfit for office, and why you thought a billionaire who's never had to struggle for a damn thing in his entire life actually gives a damn about poor/middle class people, when it's pretty damn obviously he dosen't give a fck about us. We're all Americans, regardless of our political affilation. And stop making these stupid lazy-a** generalizations of everybody on the left. We don't all think the same,or agree on everything, just like you "trumpfheads" don't all think alike, or agree on every little damn thing either. There are even some republicans who can't stand trumpf and don't think he's fit for office, and are sorry they voted for him to begin with. Because he really dosen't stand for anything the Republican party says they stand for. Whatever's best for our country, it damn sure isn't going to come from trumpf and his cabinet of billionaires he's crammed it with. He didn't clean the swamp, he just drained it, and refilled it back up with his cronies, that's all. The idiot-in-chief and his family only care about what's good for them and their bottom line, period. They don't care anything about the core values of our country, or even about the American people. Also, if these little states felt so marginalized, they should have went to Washington and took their concerns to the politicians they elected, instead of thinking trumpf was going to wave some damn magic wand and magically solve all their problems. I think some of these people and sorry they voted for this idiot, because he's clearly not qualified to do anything except look stupid and say even more stupid things. He clearly didn't think he was going to be president so he never even tried to learn the basics about being one, and it shows.

Also, the woman's post is a little more complicated than you're making it out to be, and she is not saying that ALL left-wingers are the same, unlike you. I also disagree with her describing "SJWs (a term I hate because the right appropriated it and twisted it around to make it an insult for left-wingers,even though there's actually nothing wrong with the term) as a "cult", because it's not. Obviously she hasn't spent any real time among some trumpf-lovers because they actually act more like a cult of crazies then anything else. I also don't know where she's getting this "lefties encouraging violence" BS from, when it's usually trump lovers who are always so damn quick and ready to threaten or beat up someone who dosen't look, act or think like them. Look at that candidate in Montana who beat up a reporter merely for asking him a question. He won't be able to get away with that s** in Washington, I can tell you that. If he dosen't like reporters asking questions, he's in the wrong damn business--because it comes with the job. trumpf's ignorant arrogant behavior has made people think they can be racist a**holes and get away with it. Oh, and by the way, this Gianforte dude just happens to have Russian business ties too--how interesting. Wonder if that's why trumpf likes him, lol:

I'm not a right winger. If anything I'm left, but I don't subscribe to the rabid abuse both sides fire at each other. Both sides name call and shit, but trump wasnt/isn't the usual nightmare in suit. He talked to people that felt they had been ignored by both sides for a very long time. The left needed to explain why he was dangerous, not just jump up people's arse. The left needed debate, to put across they're argument of why trump was the wrong choice.

You need to take a good long hard look at yourself, because you've attacked me, some on the left, as a right winger. And shit like that, is why trump won. You were too interested in name calling, blame shifting and the rest as YOU still clearly are. You need to allow for the debate so you can make your argument. Why do you think the polls were so wrong? It's because no one admitted they were thinking about voting trump because they knew the back lash they would get from friends and family. YOU created a place where hostility was the only thing people could expect so they didn't bother bringing it up and so you never knew they were thinking about and you never had the opportunity to tell them why it was a bad idea. Follow?

As for why people voted for trump, there's a lot of reasons. One I mentioned earlier, but the biggest blunder was Clinton. She did nothing to convince people she was the right lady for the job. I know people in Wisconsin that still don't have any clue what she stood for. She saw the polls and didn't bother talking to those that "weren't her people". Blame her arrogance.

You can piss and moan about the right being assholes and whatever else and no matter who right you are about some trump supporters, the fact is you and the left are in part to blame for trump. So suck it up, stop pointing fingers and look at what YOU can do to make sure he doesn't get another 4 years when the time comes. Take back control of the houses. Do whatever, but stop the name calling and childish "they do it too".
