"Of course, Serenity. I'm 53. Zoe was the first woman I ever saw that was written well. She wasn't written as a male wanabe. She was written as a woman who learned how to be dangerous."
Exactly. So many supposedly "strong" women are really just women who have to abandon their femininity/identity and become men. Why is it impossible for someone to be a fully fledged woman AND a strong person? (Huge problem I had with the character of Eowyn in LOTR- Tolkien just wanted to create a female character to bring balance. But he just ends up describing her as a man in a woman's body. Why can't she just be a kickass woman? But I digress...) I adore Zoe; you take her seriously without a second thought. She is already married (to Wash, whom I love) and has a very serious relationship. She is not in the plot merely as a romantic foil for the men. She is just awesome.
She is realistically strong, and still has her identity as a woman. That is why I adore Zoe.
