Well,
I know first hand what you're talking about. I am Puerto Rican, West Indian, South American Indian (Arawak) & Dutch. I am tan complexion and I do have features that look asian, hispanic & African American. I get called BLACK or African American ALL THE TIME.
I do recognize Gina Torres as a Latina and a few Latin Magazines have also. It's something we go through and people don't know that it affects you. When you tell them you're hispanic and you tell them your last name, then they say, "I thought you were BLACK". It's just society and ignorance. NOT ALL Hispanics are light skinned and look like J-LO or Salma Hayek! I hope that Ms. Torres can represent us Latinas that aren't considered Latina because we have full lips or are considered too dark according to be latina. All hispanics are different just because someone looks African American, it doesn't mean that they are.
Well I'm done with my rant, for now!
