One hit wonder
Watch Pacific Rim last night, one word - Awful!!!
Pans Labyrinth was superb but everything else he has directed is pure garbage.

shareThat can only mean you haven't seen Devil's Backbone. While I think all of his movies so far are pretty good, I can understand that some people like his Mexican-Spanish films and not his Hollywood ones, and that some others don't like any of them at all. But how can the opinions "Pan's Labyrinth is superb" and "The Devil's Backbone is pure garbage" belong to the same person?
shareNot garbage but disappointing. And to me his one hit wonder was Hellboy because Pan's Labyrinth also goes in the disappointment box.

I don't think he's a one hit wonder. I've not seen Pacific Rim yet but most of his other movies are good.
shareUh....I have to disagree. His only poop worthy movie was Mimic and even he didn't like it. I thought PR was fun robot action, thought Hellboy movies were a good take on the comics (different story line but still awesoem and funny), and Devils Backbone and Pan's Labyrinth were great. But you know, opinions....
shareNo he's not. Before PL was Devil's Backbone and Cronos. And to be honest it was Blade 2 that got me hooked. Which was really creepy.
shareall his films are good but pans labyrinth is his masterpiece bellboy is a very wellshot film but i find the character not very likeable to connect and sympathise him prince nuanda from bellboy 2 was great though he reminded me sephiroth from final fantasy 7
shareYou're very much in the minority if you think del Toro has only made one good movie. Critical consensus (as evidenced by sites like Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic) is that all his movies except perhaps Blade II (59% positive on Rotten Tomatoes) and Mimic (61% positive on Rotten Tomatoes, which is considered to be "fresh") are good. The Devil's Backbone is a wonderful movie, probably his best, and both Hellboy movies are excellent action movies/comic-book adaptations. His first feature, Cronos, is also a good film and a clever twist on the vampire genre.
