Needs a new dialogue writer

I've enjoyed all of Guillermo del Toro's movies to date, to a greater or lesser extent, but my goodness the dialogue in his English language movies is terrible. I don't speak Spanish so I can't judge the dialogue Kronos, The Devil's Backbone or Pan's Labyrinth (it seems fine in the subtitles, though those are no doubt translated by someone else) but everything else is a problem.

Pacific Rim really brought this home to me. I enjoyed the action scenes, but when even an actor as good as Idris Elba can't sell the big inspiring speech you've written, there's a problem. The comic relief scientists and Ron Perlman's character were also cringeworthy.

Del Toro speaks intelligently about the themes and ideas behind his movies and how the visual, colour and design work speaks to these. I wish he'd put as much thought into finding someone to help him write dialogue.
