The most underrated British actor.

He is such an amazing actor that has the potential to be Oscar worthy. I really hope he gets a big break soon in movies.

The most OVERrated British actor IMO. Horribly unnerving and almost unbearable. I just don't like him.

I must agree! (And to the guy who thinks that he is the most overrated actor, go suck a lemon! ;)) In any event, he was my favorite Doctor - prior to him, it was is Peter Davison - he's been my favorite Hamlet so far, (and I've seen 9 versions, including a horrible German one that was done by Mystery Science Theater 3000), he was *amazing* as a traumatic brain injury survivor in Recovery..... I could easily go on and on and on, as my boyfriend could easily attest to, but I'll stop here. ;)

Very underrated. He's been excellent in everything I've seen him in. I even liked him in 'Fright Night'. Definitely think he has Oscar potential if someone would give him the opportunity.

He's a great actor. Never really saw him as underrated because there are more and more people learning about David from Doctor Who in the US.

If it goes over well, he may finally get the big US break by being in the Marvel TV show, Jessica Jones.

The thing is that Ewan McGregor, who's just 18 days older than DT, has had a very successful US career ever since Trainspotting. It's hard to say whether the heavy commitment to filming Doctor Who through much of his 30s, or Tennant's habit of doing a long run of a stage play every few years has kept him from taking the kind of film roles Ewan and more recently Benedict Cumberbatch have. They certainly are well-known in North America.

I guess the bright spot is that many British actors are now getting prime roles in the US. Hopefully David will be part of that wave. My wish is that he does a meaty role in a film featuring a big US star so non-Dr Who fans take notice.

I totally agree 100%

Ewan hit the jackpot early on starring in Trainspotting and has done virtually no television since.

Benedict benefited from being in smaller roles in cinema while David was busy on tv and stage. Benedict, in particular, benefited from a smaller role in Oscar-winning movie. That gives you a lot of pull. A friend of mine who is a character actor had his career take off after a movie he had a minor role in won an Oscar. It happened to be a Tarantino movie, as well. They are still mostly supporting parts, but he has worked nonstop in major award-winning movies and tv shows ever since.

David became a huge name in tv and was in the an iconic genre role for five years. I think it is harder for an actor like that to go back to small roles even in mainstream movies. He is too big a name, and yet the movie industry is wary of giving a leading role to a largely untested movie actor. His first few theatrical movie roles after Doctor Who were not that great.... he's gotten burned. He now needs one of his small indie movies to earn some awards. Metanoia has potential.

Personally, I like seeing him in tv series week after week. But I would like to have more opportunities to see him on the big screen.
