I agree with the OP and Carrie. Also, "Prom Night" was just not a good idea for a remake. It looks way too low budget, and it was PG13, so no blood, no gore, so what's the use?
I don't get the people who say she's "extremely talented." I have always thought she was would do fine in some basic cable show, but not leading lady movie material.
None of the movies she's done have made a lasting impression other than "Pitch Perfect" and "Hairspray," but musicals become dated quickly.
She's not a terrible actress, but she's not amazing. She did well in "Guiding Light" and "American Dreams," but she was 12-19 when she did those shows. Maybe she tried harder then because she wanted to be in movies, but now is in movies and doesn't care to try hard? (Shrugs).
I think it's the "Pitch Perfect" hype and she has a marketable look that makes people cast her in many things.
