The real reason you don't hear about Daniel Radcliffe anymore

Daniel Radcliffe beat out reportedly thousands of other kids in a massive talent search to score one of the most coveted film roles of all time: heroic boy (and teen) wizard Harry Potter in Warner Bros.' film adaptations of J.K. Rowling's monstrously successful Harry Potter series.

Radcliffe played Potter in eight blockbuster films, growing up on screen with his character. By the time the final film in the franchise was released in 2011, Radcliffe was all grown up and ready to try out some things that had nothing to do with spells, Snape, wands, or witches. Here's a look at what the actor has been up to of late.

Daniel Radcliffe was typecast due to Harry Potter - Basically until he approaches middle age, anything that he stars in will be labeled “Harry Potter portraying X”. Radcliffe will remain linked to his former franchise for as long as he remains in films and that’s not going to work well for other “blockbusters”.

Radcliffe wouldn’t make a believable action star - Frankly, he’s too short and too slightly built for that. Since action films are the next biggest source of blockbusters (behind fantasy/sci fi) he would really need to change his image drastically to score successes there.

Radcliffe isn’t necessarily a strong comedic actor - His American counterpart. Elijah Wood, has proven that he can pull off comedy, while Radcliffe has tried (most notably with 2015’s Swiss Army Man) with mixed levels of success. It’s unlikely that without years more effort to sharpen his comedic skills that Radcliffe will score a box office hit with a comedy.

He likely wants to be taken seriously as an actor - That’s why he’s doing indie and stage work, rather than the cash grabs which are big budget Hollywood films. Serious work doesn’t usually result in serious box office returns and so he’s in a holding pattern as a result.

It appears that Daniel Radcliffe’s career arc is going to be “a famous childhood career and lower rates of success in his adulthood and later years”. Since he’s not complaining about that in the media, and since he’s go no major big budget projects lined up going into the 2020s, that seems to be a course that he finds appealing or for which he’s made a pragmatic series of decisions to accept.

His career hasn't stalled after Potter. He's had steady work since. I just watched his in "Imperium" (2016) He's a cop that goes undercover as a white supremacist. He was excellent.
