New movie: Beast of Burden

Don't know how reliable this site is...

Not a great team. I wish he wouldn't work for the sake of working. I'm tired of him being the best part of all his film projects.

It's true. Saw it on my BTL website. They will start shooting November 22 in Savannah, Georgia. It looks interesting.

Is the one with Zachary Quinto not happening then? I was more interested in that.

reply

I don't know. I was under the impression that We Do Not Forget would be shot before the end of the year, but not sure now. Doesn't mean it won't be shot, just mauybe not until 2017.

I don't think movies about hackers and internet related things are doing very well at the box office. So that might have scuttled financing.

This sounds like a generic story and without a particularly talented director or screenwriter is likely to be just another movie that will be fun for Dan to make, but won't make any waves otherwise.

reply

If Dan has fun making it, who cares if it "makes waves"? Dan has the freedom to make all the fun films he wants. You are making an awful lot of assumptions based on very limited information about plot and the talent of the director and such. Perhaps we should wait to make a snap judgment until there is more information to go on? :)

reply

I will admit that all his small projects have turned out OK and hopefully this one will too! But you know, everyone makes a snap judgement based on script, director etc. Just as Dan does when he signs on for something. I just think this team doesn't inspire much confidence and represents a set back and signals that he isn't getting very good offers.

As a fan I wish for something just a bit better - it is a bit irritating to see Dan's good work being brought down by bad producers and directors and distributors.

reply

Very good offers? The only very good offers right now in Hollywood are franchises, remakes or superhero movies, nothing else. He's said several times that he doesnt want to do blockbusters just for the paycheck or box office success,he wants a long and diverse career and he's earning the respect from the industry doing films like SAM which at first seemed like one ridiculous and weird indie but look how it turned out

reply

I actually fully supported SAM when it was announced. It was a Sundance Lab project - those are pretty coveted and they are workshopped with very good people. And Paul Dano actually has a very good record when it comes to indies.

I certainly don't want Dan to be doing block busters but there are a lot of great indie producers and directors. Dan started out with one of the best for KYD in Christine Vachon. What If also had a good team, as did Horns. Even Imperium had a director who had a very well received documentary before. SAM also had a great production team. But this guy - he has one decent film...So maybe I should be more optimistic. Hopefully it has a decent budget.
