Only on for a couple of months - get your tickets quick peeps.

Very cool. Does it say when the tickets are on sale? I don't think it's mentioned in the article. I love Stoppard so would probably see this anyway. I'm so skint this month though!

Do you have any talents?

November 2 to the general public, starts today for certain members/friends. Actually don't know how popular Stoppard is or how big the theater is. Also pretty sure they will have inexpensive tickets for young people.

reply

Good, I'll have some money by then. Stoppard is very popular. One of the most popular playwrights around.

It is interesting to read the reaction to the casting on Theatreboard.co.uk.

Quite a few are not happy about Dan being in this.

reply

Why ever not? Next year it will be his 10 years doing theatre, he's pretty seasoned and he's always had raves for his performances. I've not read the play,so don't know about he character he's playing.

I saw those comments earlier. I still think that there is a fraternity of old fogie snobs in theater - US and UK - who turn up their noses at non RADA types and movie actors. In addition a lot of theatre fans seem to prefer more expressive, dare I say over the top performances. Whatever Dan does, the fact that he is rich and famous and getting opportunities because of it is always going to tick them off.

This sounds like a Swiss Army Man type role. Rosencrantz is the dumb one right?

reply

Don't know how this can be compared to Swiss Army Man.

It's quite a word-y play from the bits I've listened to (got a bootleg from the last revival which starred Jamie Parker, funnily enough!)

It's an absurdist two hander about life and the randomness of it. A lot of people compare it to Waiting for Godot which is what Dan compared SAM to. But luckily this one is written by someone who's acclaimed and won't have to fight the same battles as SAM to be taken seriously.
