Singer Alleges Chris Noth Assaulted Her in 2002
share
Just so we're all clear on this point: Threatening to ruin someone's career because they turned you down is NOT a socially acceptable part of dating.
But I'm sure some asshole will defend it anyway.
No hold on a sec.
If you read the article, he makes a move, she says no, he stops and leaves, angry and humiliated.
So there is ZERO misconduct here.
Then he tells her over the phone to shut up about what happened, and threatens her to ruin her career IF she blabs about it (probaby quite the empty threat since he is doubtfully that powerful, threat which he never actualized anyway).
Most of this events are not socially acceptable.
NONE IS ILLEGAL
This clown speaking for survivors of sexual abuse is an insult to the real survivors.
Whether this is illegal or not depends on exactly what kind of touching without consent he did, there could have been something that could have counted as criminal battery... if the statue of limitations hadn't expired.
Threatening to ruin someone's career because of your own bad behavior is beyond the pale, but of course, the idiots here defend this douche.
Uff...again:
so you are a MAN in a private location for what looks like a private moment with a woman.
You see an opportunity to make your move. You think it's the right moment and you go for it.
She pushes you away.
Clearly you misunderstood the situation or her intentions, or she changed her mind, so you back off and leave it there.
NO HARM DONE TO ANYBODY (NORMAL).
Of course "what kind of touching without consent he did" is important. But I'm pretty sure all the touching described here is quite allright: she had her clothes on, he didn't even touch her skin.
What he did is called MAKING A MOVE. You cannot make a move without making it.
I am not defending this idiot. I don't even like him as an actor. If he's proven guilty of any crime, he should go to jail.
But I just don't see anything here proven against him, he always had these women's consent or else he backed off. He is completely innocent if what he said is true: "no always means no — that is a line I did not cross."
In this singer case I only see a woman accusing him of rape when he only made a move on her, and I believe it's not fair to tolerate such an unjust and illegal activity.
You don't get the real problem here, which isn't that of criminal misconduct, but of image. Mauling his date and threatening her afterwards wouldn't land him in jail if the statute of limitations was in effect, but it's sure disappointing his female fans, the ones who thought of him as a bit of a sex symbol until all this came out.
So now they think of him as just another creep, and he can kiss his job on "Sex and the City" goodbye, and he won't be hired for any job that relies on appealing to a female audience. His crime isn't so much criminal assault, as it is disappointing his fans, and showing them that his image is a low of bull.
That's what kills actors' careers, showing that their image is a load of bull. This is like if Vin Diesel was filmed cowering behind his bodyguards, whimpering "Protect me! Protect little me! I'm so frightened!". His audience would immediately desert him, as Noth's female audience is deserting him now. They thought he was someone who knew how to do heterosexuality right.
I'm not sure how that is even legal.
We developed laws to make clear to everyone what is and what is not allowed.
This guy, had he not broken any law like he says, has every right to be as heterosexual, aggressive, shitty lover as he wants.
He can be homosexual or impotent afaik.
These women have zero right of accusing him this way.
THEY are the illegal ones slandering him and his image.
If they are just gossiping (like in your Vin Diesel example, nothing illegal there just gossip) they should never dare to play the victim nor talk about rape nor crime nor law.
Nor MONEY, nor they should appear with their attorney.
Yes, dear, Noth has the legal right to be the heterosexual, aggressive, shitty lover he appears to be in real life. But the producers of "Sex and the City" have no legal obligation to let him keep playing a sex symbol, his agent has no legal obligation to keep him on the client list after he's thrown away his primary job, and the media has no legal obligation to keep from printing stories about his personal life.
You idiots keep focusing on the legal aspect as if it were the only issue, but it's not... his real problem is social disapproval. Social disapproval works on a different set of standards than the criminal justice system, and you can't talk it away with legalese.
Beware of social disapproval (and your employer's standards of behavior), if you behave badly enough it can cost you your job or your relationships, and no amount of whining about what's legal is going to save you. No, you just have to understand what the social standards are, and follow them.
Otter I am not the idiot here.
You keep repeating that his problem is not having broken the law, but social disapproval. AS WE DON'T GET THAT.
No shit Sherlock, that is exactly what I am pointing out.
How men can get accused even if they break no law, in this social media self appointed court based on unproved gossip.
And they get destroyed even before they can defend themselves or have a trial.
Clear?
Does THAT sound to you like there is a problem?
Or should we keep on judging people based on "he said, she said" like in middle ages?
"How men can get accused even if they break no law"
Because they've broken social mores and pissed off their fan base.
Pissing off the fan base has always been punished by career death, so what if there's a new method of reporting on scanda.. The end result is still the same, and so is the lack of an appeal process. There was never "due process", not as long as there has been rumor or a scandal-mongering press.
This new method is illegal and easy to manipulate.
Due process in such matter is not only recommended, it is mandatory.
Let me ask you again. Does THAT sound to you like there is a problem?
Okay, you keep talking about legalities.
If a man grabbed you and kissed you without your consent, would you consider that an assault? If a man groped you and put your hand on his penis, without you giving any indication that you wanted that, is it an assault?
The laws in my country say yes.
Social disapproval has always existed and has always been possible to manipulate. Women have always told each other about bad dates, and warned each other "Do NOT go out with Heisenberg, I had to fight him off and yell and then he threatened to ruin my career if I told anyone!", you just weren't aware of this reason you couldn't get a date (among others).
Tough shit, social disapproval has always existed and always will, you have as much power to manipulate it as anyone. And if you're more afraid of it being used against you than eager to use it yourself, then don't go around violating social norms! Gawd, how hard is it to behave yourself, same for Noth. If he hadn't been an asshole in private while playing Mr. Right in public, he wouldn't be in this mess.
I'm a woman and I couldn't care less if Chris Noth was a lousy creep in real life, nor do I have any expectations from actors other that being convincing in their roles. I always thought of Mr. Big as an enjoyable and entertaining character because of his intriguing behaviour, humour and flaws, and Chris Noth's acting was suitable for it.
The real problem here is that Noth was initially accused of very serious crimes (he supposedly brutally raped a woman and sent her to the hospital) and the reaction to these accusations is erratic, irrational and plain wrong. A police investigation would be appropriate and useful. Instead, we get a tsunami of unnecessary reactions from self-entitled actors, celebrities and journalists who rush to align with the alleged victims, taking justice in their own hands and implying the man is a criminal before a proper investigation ever took place.
Exactly my opinion. I agree 100%
But witch hunters will accuse you of being "defending" him.
They don't see the injustice of proceeding with public trials based on unproven gossip on tabloids or tv.
I'm female, still a fan of Noth's and a rape survivor. Here's my take, these "allegations" are just that. Allegations. These women who come back years, decades later do nothing for those of us who have been raped. I support RULE OF LAW not rule by social media or message board indictment. If these women have been rapes/assaulted there was nothing stopping them from reporting it back then. And the number of the allegations mean nothing.
There is something in law called conspiracy. These women should be investigated ro see if they have ever told even the smallest little lie in their lives. If they have their stories can be shut down as conspiracy and they should be charged for that conspiracy.
Food for thought: there were over 150+ accusers against the people at the McMartin Preschool that were proven lies and concoctions stemming from one psychotic sociopath mother. That set off what was known as The Satanic Panic across North America in the early 80s. I believe we're in a second wave of that with the Rapanic Panic. Bill Cosby, Marilyn Manson, Weinstein, et al have all been caught up in that evil dragnet due in large part to a bunch of sociopathic women who yhink "their time has come" for a reckoning. Yet they don't understand how truly pathetic they are.
Sure, you're a woman.
shareIf you are female and a rape survivor, I am wondering what sort of help you have had. Therapy does help.
I don't know when your rape happened or where it happened, but if you had supportive police, you are lucky. If you went to court and had justice that's amazing. A lot of women don't get that. Not all police take reports seriously. I volunteer with survivors, and the stories I've heard about what cops have said.
Also, when someone hears a story about the justice served in the Brock Turner case, or the all the things judges have said to victims like "why couldn't you keep your knees together?" It's no wonder why people don't come forward. Sometimes it takes years to feel safe enough or empowered enough to come forward. I'm all for justice, and those who make false accusations should be charged, but the justice system as it is, rarely is there for rape victims.
She's not accusing him of rape. Where did you read that?
Aggressively kissing someone without consent is assault though. Even without the aggressiveness, kissing someone without consent is assault. Groping is sexual assault, and it is illegal.
There is a big difference between making a move and assault.
Hopes she gets a HUGE payday! A few mill at least.
shareShe consents to drinking with him.
She consents to sharing a ride with him.
She consents to going back to his apartment with him.
Then he wants sex.
'Oh my God, I did not see this coming!!!!' she screamed.
RIGHT?...EVERYONE KNOWS THE ONLY REASON TO SPEND TIME WITH FEMALES IS TO GET AT THEIR HOLES.🤔
shareWomen like sex. I know this upsets you. But they do.
They go back to men's apartments to fuck. They love fucking.
Go cry about it.
EVERY SINGLE TIME...THOSE HORNY BITCHES.
shareNo, moron. Not every single time.
Go meet some women. They're not the alien beings you think they are. They like sex. I know this scares you. Bad luck.
Cretin.
Also, turn caps lock off, you malformed simpleton.
SO...YOU AGREE WITH MY COMMENTS THEN?🙄
shareNo, because they're moronic.
AWW...THE SAD LITTLE MAN GOT TIRED OF REVERSING HIS OWN NEUROSIS WITH WOMEN ONTO OTHERS.😉
shareYou sound rapey.
Go out. Meet women. Don't be so scared of them.
And ask a functioning adult to help you learn how to turn off the caps lock.
YOU KEEP COMING BACK TO THIS FAUX ADVICE ON GETTING OUT AND MEETING WOMEN...BEING SCARED OF THEM...ETC...IT'S PRETTY OBVIOUS TO ANYONE READING THIS THAT YOU ARE SPEAKING ABOUT YOURSELF.
shareI love how it's always something that happened a long time ago and nobody said anything when it happened. Only 20, 30 or 40 years later it's suddenly an issue.
shareYeah. Those events never go away. Once they happen they have an everlasting effect on your life.
There are so many reasons why victims don't come forward publicly. The story does say that he threatened her. If that is true, then its understandable why she wouldn't. Also, the police don't have the best track record with stories like this where it wasn't rape.
It's always, "He threatened me!" What threat is worth keeping that in for a decade until you're famous then suddenly it's okay to cry rape, assault, he groped me..... It's not like Noth has been hiding under a rock and suddenly he's out now. He's been in the collective consciousness for the last three decades on famous shows. One he left rather unceremoniously (og L&O). THAT was the time to come out with accusations/allegations. Suddenly one of these women are "triggered" by a Peloton ad? 🙄
