Not based on what she said, which was her father was pissed she married her husband. He seemed a respectable man so I would guess her parents were most likely somewhat privledged, to not approve. She is a bit tougher now but she had to learn quickly. She definitely didn't come across as worldly as a prostitute in the first season.

Agreed Pythoner... she came from an aristocratic family in England. She escaped them by marrying Robert. She hated the constraints and restrictions of her life and was intrigued by Robert's work and fell in love with him from the first moment he spoke. Her father did not approve of the match and was angered when she went with Robert to America.
She's with Durant because she's alone in the world now and doesn't ever want to go back to England.
