Why does he talk like that?

He sounds like Christopher Walken. Is that the best New Yorker accent he can do? If so, he shouldn't bother. The other people on Conviction talk normal.

Actually, Mr. Mount's accent is quite authentic for a Bronx-ish type dialect. It is noticable and strong because New York accents are noticable and strong. Just because he doesn't speak the typical Manhattan NY accent doesn't mean he's a bad actor. I think he is quite good, and even though he doesn't have a terrific, out of this world body, neither do most Americans, so more power to him. I'm happy for his success and I am proud that someone from a small southern town like myself (although I am transplanted from NY) is making his dreams come true and doing what he likes. It's an encouragement to me and everyone else who doesn't have his or her dreams handed in on a silver platter. Just because he's an up and coming "celebrity" doesn't mean we have to subject him to enormously high standards that normal people could never reach. He is, after all, just a normal American guy who is working hard to make his own American dream come true. Give him a break. As for the mini band aid... I was wondering about that too, but it was most likely NOT his call, you'll have to blame the director for that.

totally
thank you someone agrees with me...

That's what I was thinking. No one else on the show is trying to sound like a New Yorker. He just doesn't sound good. He should definitely drop the accent!

I agree. I think he not only sounds like an authentic New Yorker, but acts like an authentic criminal lawyer. And I am both, so I know of what I speak. ;)

i knew he didnt' have an authentic accent. i finally looked him up, because it was bothering me--i thought he was maybe austrailian or something!
some may think the accent is "good" but he looses it here and there, and that is one thing that really bothers me.

I didn't say he was a bad actor, or that anything was wrong with the way he looks. Maybe he's trying too hard. I've talked to and heard several people from New York, and the one I mentioned is the only one who talks like that. It's just distracting. I think Eric Balfour does a good job with adding the accent and still using inflection and conveying somewhat of a personality at the same time without being distracting, as does the girl with the black hair that Anson's character sleeps with. I know and know of a lot of people that sound like those two.
