The 'Secession War?'

In his bio section, it stated that his great-great-great-grandfather was in the
"Secession War."

Maybe its just me, but I have never heard the Civil War referred to like that.

I do have a good friend who is in the Sons of the Confederate Veterans and
and he sometimes refers to the Civil War as "The War of Northern Agression."
I think he is half kidding. (No, we do not agree on all things, and he is not
in the Klan. We do have many interesting discussions.)

All of my great-great grandfathers on my father's side were soldiers in the
Confederate Army. Only one survived.

I wonder if Anson has a picture of this great-great-great grandfather, and, if
they look alike at all.

Many Southerners used that term and some history books. Not the type we read in high school. Anson's character being Southern especially from the area he was from as a former confederate officer from, the term fits 100%. Civil War was mostly a history book's term for children to learn about it and the right political term to use.

The expression "Secession War" may sound a bit antiquated, but it isn't wrong. In fact, it was commonly used until the more politically correct (and perhaps more historically accurate) "Civil War" largely supplanted it.
