This guy seems negative and self satisfying

On twitter, he campaigned heavily to cancel (not postpone) the 2012 NYC marathon which I think is fine. He has a right to an opinion of course and there were valid reasons to cancel it.

But after it is canceled, he starts retweeting comments about the "pricks" who made the decision to cancel it and saying Mayor Bloomberg looked like a "dunce." Because of these comments, I don't believe his motives were genuine. It seems like the most important thing to him is to spread negativity and bash others. How does that help NYC and the Sandy victims?

Not defending the prick comment, but as a NYer I agree with Anson. Bloomberg came off as self serving by insisting against all decency to hold the marathon until he finally made the last minute decision to cancel. It certainly looked like a politian trying to save his neck in light of serious public criticism against his stance. You also need to factor in the emotional toll that the people in our area have dealt with. He is not just an actor spouting off, he is one of many that are living through this nightmare. I think Mayor Bloomberg was well-intentioned at first but his callous disregard of his people, especially those on Staten Island, was shocking to many of us especially when he kept insisting on going forward.

Thanks pythoner for the insight. I can only imagine what it must be like for the folks devastated by the storm.

From his twitter, Mount seemed to be in good shape with electricity and twitting about drinking with friends. You never know. Maybe he is living a nightmare as well but that wasn't the impression I got at all from his comments.

I really dislike celebrities who use their fan base to divide people and stir up controversy. I understand celebrities want to speak out their opinions and be heard. But during tragedy, I think it's best to exercise composure. Other celebrities have shown support. We can vote out politicians like Bloomberg (although the NYT and New Yorker and WSJ seem to be more sympathetic and supportive of the extremely difficult responsibility he has right now more than the public and NY Post). But we are stuck with these outspoken controversial celebrities who are sustained by networks and cooing fan bases. I think they should stick to what they do best, entertainment.

Charles, all I can tell you is from personal experience (I've been talking to him on the net for several years) he seens very genuine to me. He spent the day helping in Staten Island. He voices his opinions and I have no problem with that, we are all entitled. He has recently gotten an influx of fawning fans because of HOW but I can tell you he is not one to cater to them. He tries to avoid the "you're so hot" nonsense and engage in interesting discussions. My point about being in the middle of it all was just that no matter how you are personally directly impacted, it is incredibly heartbreaking to see the destruction around you and be confronted non stop with all the suffering.

Ibelauralee he is a good guy. The op wasn't that familiar with him though and has since proven themselves to be open minded. Sadly we have an abundance of
Of shallow celebs same as we have a abundance of selfish, shallow citizens.

I'm going to throw a little cold water on this thread. I've been observing this guy professionally for a long time. While I think it is admirable that he got his hands dirty after Sandy, his posts about it on FB and Twitter smacked of self-promotion. If you look at his longer history with social media, he is well known for provoking and inciting his fan base.

He is an actor with many faces so it is difficult to really know who he is, especially as he is acting as his own publicist and doing it badly most of the time (sorry, this is my job) Yes, he's highly intelligent and well educated. He's talented but like any struggling actor, he has had some epic failures. He calls himself a redneck but really he's highly sophisticated New Yorker. He is allowing people to see what he wants them to see, and he has learned the fine art of manipulating his fan base.

That's your opinion and you are entitled to it, but at the end if the day it is just an opinion and no more valid than anyone else's, unless you are claiming and can prove that you actually know him.

Man, pythoner is really in love with the guy and thinks she really knows him from his social networking sites and her version of "talking" to him online.
