Mandy Moore to Star in Comedy for ABC

Mandy Moore is returning to ABC.

The former Grey's Anatomy guest star will star in Us and Them, a single-camera comedy from 20th Television that has landed at the Disney-owned network.

The family comedy explores the inherent conflict that exists between the families you grow up in and the ones we make as adults and is told through from the perspective of Annie (Moore) and Ben, a young, newlywed couple.

ABC has given a put-pilot commitment to the project, which hails from Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements' 21 Laps/Adelstein shingle. The pair will executive produce the project alongside Bob Fisher, who will pen the project. Jon Leshay will produce, with Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum) directing and exec producing.

The project reteams Moore with Leshay, who was a music supervisor on a handful of Moore-fronted projects including features Saved, How to Deal and Nicholas Sparks' A Walk to Remember.

Moore's small-screen work includes four episodes of ABC's long-running Shonda Rhimes medical drama Grey's Anatomy as well as episodes of Scrubs, Entourage and How I Met Your Mother.

She's repped by WME, Storefront Entertainment and Ziffren Brittenham.

I love her movie work so I was hoping she'd become a big screen star but getting my fix of Moore a week is just fine with me

Single camera comedy, which means it will probably be in the vein of Arrested Development, 30 Rock, Malcolm in the Middle and those types of shows with no laugh track which gives me some comfort.

Yeah I said I hope she isn't snobby to doing television, but it would be nice to see her stay on the big screen with Falling Slowly. I just wished she hadn't done so many romantic comedies in succession, otherwise she would have been optioned for more drama pieces.

Growing up on '90s TV like "Family Matters," "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air", "Full House," "Home Improvement" and "Step by Step," I love the multi-camera format. There's something comforting about sitcoms. The recent CBS hit, "2 Broke Girls," is a great throwback to the times.

But I grew to love and appreciate single-camera shows like "30 Rock" and "Scrubs" and I even consider "Malcolm in the Middle" to be one of the best TV shows ever produced. So I'm excited either way for Moore starring in a comedy.

Of course, don't get me wrong, I love sitcoms as much as the next person but the sitcoms of late to me have been very stale so that's why I'm kind of jumping the gun there.
