shareShe's nearly 40. Actresses have a shorter shelf-life in Hollywood as leads than male actors.
shareIt could also be the same reason that Joan Allen was in Death Race.
For Death Race, Joan Allen liked the idea of a female villain who didn't fall into any of the usual Hollywood tropes for female villains. Perhaps Radha Mitchell likes the character of Rose for Silent Hill.
Or it could be that because she starred in movies like High Art which didn't fall into "Hollywood Blockbuster" territory that she takes roles like this. Often, in Hollywood, actresses seem to have to choose whether to star in shallow films which make a lot of money or artistic films that don't.
As someone who liked High Art, Pitch Black, and Silent Hill (which, given what's happened to Resident Evil, could have turned out much worse), I can appreciate her in a wide variety of roles.
