If you ever listen to the commentary on Kevin Smith's DVDs that Jason is in, he often refers to him by his last name.

It's pronounced like the English word 'muse', meaning somebody's inspiration.

My last name is Mewes too...We pronounce it like "Mavis"...it's German in origin where "W's" sound like "V's". Everybody WANTS to pronounce it like "Muse" though.
