shareI know what you mean. I haven't heard anything about why Merchant isn't involved in the movie but I was disappointed when I saw that he wasn't the co writer/director. I wonder if the movie will be any good without his contribution?
shareMatt Robinson is an American and because this is an American movie made in the States by an American production company they would maybe need an American writer to work with Gervais, I of course dont know but am just speculating.
shareDo you mean that they would require an American writer? Or are you saying that they want an American writer to help Gervais write a more "American" movie? They do not need an American writer just because that is where the movie is produced. A writer from anywhere in the world can make a movie in America. But maybe they do want an American to help with the writing so it will be more accessible for American audiences.
shareYeah thats what I meant, they would need an American writer on board to as you say 'make it more accessible to American audiences'. I don't think it's by any meansd strange that Steve Merchant isn't involved!
shareOK, thats what I thought you meant. I just wanted to clarify. You make a good point. It wouldn't be strange at all if that is the reason he isn't working on this one.
shareI dont see the Stephen Merchant would be upset.
He has not been involved in any of Gervais' one man shows.
They are not joined at the hip.
And I am sure in the future they will find other projects to do.

Maybe it's an idea he and Matt Robinson came up with together. David Cross and Bob Odenkirk don't do everything together either.
