My wife, Mrs. Aleister Crowley, of the beautiful red-gold hair (who is beautiful AND has a Ph.D. from an Ivy League institution AND does groundbreaking work in her field of medieval manuscript illumination -- so contrary to what Stephen might think, women who are both smart and beautiful do exist) finds him incredibly irritating for the reason you mention. To her, he seems exceptionally arrogant -- in plain Yank-speak -- he is a patronizing d&ck. He PLAYS at the whole "oh I am such a nerd! No woman wants me!" thing but it is not believable at all. He just oozes insincerity. Sorry. It is obnoxious, and the first show of his on HBO was just obnoxious and painfully not funny. He talks DOWN to women, treats them as dumb, and smart and successful women can see his immature *beep* coming from a mile away. If he really wonders about all of this, which I strongly doubt, he could try to hang out with some accomplished women, meet some doctors, lawyers, academics, artists, there is QUITE a variety I promise. Northern California is particularly wonderful. He could also mature a bit and look for heart and grace in a woman -- much better things over time.
