None of his characters really seem gay but my dad met him in real life and said he definitely seemed gay. Then again, most actors do, even the straight ones.

Well, he's married to a woman (actress Gwen Humble), so I'm thinking not.

Well, either way, it's how he is born, but Ian is still the same actor regardless, so his orientation shouldn't matter.
