He's "that guy".

He's one of those guys who you can't name a single thing he's been in, but you know you've seen him in everything.

reply

I know what I've seen him in. He played the most obnoxious of MacGyver's friends. Jack Dalton. There were quite a few episodes where Mac had friends who got killed. I was always kind of rooting for them to write out Dalton.

reply

Are you saying you don't like his performance or you thought his character was obnoxious?

reply

I won't speak ill of the actor, but I hate pretty much any episode of MacGyver that the character of Jack Dalton was in.

I think I saw that guy in an episode of Home Improvement once and he was okay.

reply

Yes, he was in Home Improvement.

reply

I actually like his version of Jack better than George Eads on the new version.

reply

Despite my distaste for the character, I can probably agree. NuMacGvyer sucks.

reply

He was Braxton in Voyager.

reply

Great in TimeCop.

But I do get him mixed up with Lane Smith

Not a dead ringer but similar age, build etc.

reply

Woah, Lane Smith was Perry White! You can't mix up those two!

reply

In the Timecop movie they seem to look similar and talk similar.

What do you think?

reply

McGill is bigger and doesn't have those baggy eyes. And Lane Smith always had that Southern accent.

I don't know, maybe because he's missing his signature moustache.

reply

Was Lanes accent put on? Seemed a little exaggerated.

reply

He was from Tennessee, so it seemed to have been his own. Maybe he exaggerated at times for comedic effect. 🤷‍♀️

Ah man, I can't believe he's been dead for 15 years already!

reply

I think it was exaggerated in My Cousin Vinny. He was trying to sound very Southern.

reply

He's another "that guy". I know him from My Cousin Vinny.

reply

Didn't he play a crazy cop in a Miami Vice episode?

reply

Don't know. I was never down with the Vice.

reply

Wah?!

reply

Yeah, he played Hank Weldon in the "Miami Vice" episode 'Out Where the Buses Don't Run' (ha ha, I stay/live there as well, listening to the sounds of the Ocean...Billy Ocean). I actually liked Hank Weldon a little, although the mental illness aspect would probably be executed without any trace of comedy nowadays (I think that would be the correct approach).

reply

It was a memorable episode, though.

reply

Oh, absolutely: I thought Hank Weldon was funny, uncanny (he was still a good detective), and tragic. Plus, David Strathairn plays his ex-partner, who's both resigned to the way Weldon is but remains protective of him.

reply

Woah, I totally forgot Strathairn was in that episode as well. It's been a while since I last saw it. Lots of actors on that show before their big break.

reply

No doubt about it, "Miami Vice" was a proving ground of sorts for up-and-coming talent (Bruce Willis, Julia Roberts, the list goes on forever...). In my mind, that show did a great many things right, including having the overlooked factor of storylines that are relevant to this day.

reply

He does that thing where he plays a sound clicking on his throat . Did it in Animal House.

reply

I noticed recently that he appears in both the first and last episodes of Quantum Leap, the old TV series with Scott Bakula and Dean Stockwell that ran from '89 to '93.
Seems like they must have thought highly of him for that to occur. Doubt it was just a random coincidence.

reply

I know i've seen him in a bunch of stuff but i can only recall 2 thing at the moment.Macgyver the Quantum leap series pilot and series finale.

reply

You and snepts both recognize him from Quantum Leap.

reply

I did too. He played God (maybe?) in the finale.

reply

I have seen a total of 0 episodes so I don't know.

reply

He was also in Animal House and was a regular on Rizzoli & Isles.

He's been in over 100 movies but he's always D-Day to me. I just saw him in The Insider and thought 'there's D-Day crushing it again.'

His wife can do it perfectly, too. I saw her do it at a golf tournament he was playing in....

An angry Elvis impersonator in Into the Night.
The sheriff in My Cousin Vinny.
An angry lawyer in The Insider.
The judge in Runaway Jury.
President Lincoln's Secretary of War in Lincoln (for Spielberg.)
The golfing great Walter Hagen in "Bagger Vance." (McGill has been playing celebrity golf tournaments for years dining off this role)

...he's got a million of 'em.
