Logan Lerman lands lead role in Philip Roth Bestseller Indignation!
Logan has landed the lead role of the film adaption of Indignation! The novel is set in 1951 and centers around Marcus Messner, an idealistic son of a humble kosher butcher from Newark, NJ. The youth leaves for Ohio to study at a small, conservative college, where he finds himself at odds with the administration, grapples with anti-Semitism and sexual repression, and pines after a troubled girl, Olivia Hutton (Gadon). Blonde and pretty, Olivia is a classmate of Marcus at Winesburg College. She goes on a date with Marcus and is attracted to his intensity. She is sexually promiscuous, headstrong and fiercely independent. A daughter to a highly regarded Cleveland surgeon, Olivia had previously attempted suicide and spent time in a mental institution. Marcus Messner is an extraordinary character, heartbreakingly open and alive but finds it difficult to cope with the many who hate him for being Jewish. Also, his father, the sturdy, hardworking neighborhood butcher, seems to have gone mad–mad with fear and apprehension of the dangers of adult life, the dangers of the world, the dangers he sees in every corner for his beloved boy. Far from Newark, Marcus has to find his way amid the customs and constrictions of another American world.
Sounds like a very interesting role that fits Logan and I know he’ll do yet another amazing performance. I’m real excited for this one and so proud and happy for Logan!
