Typecast?

I think Byung-hun Lee is a really fine actor, and I'd hate to see his full acting talents go unused.

I'd personally hate for him to be typecast as the all running, fighting. killing, shooting machine forever more.
Anyone else feel the same?

I wouldn't say he's being type casted, I think he's still trying to get away from his "heartthrob” image from his days in soap operas so he can be taken seriously (thought doing GI Joe does seem a bit ass backwards on his part; but I guess you do what you have to to make it here in the States.) But he's done a good number of romantic dramas, and I'm not really sure how to classify his short film for Three Extremes II; but I do wish he'd do more films like it. I'd love to see him in a good mind binder of a thriller or horror film; but action and romance seem to be his niche for now. I just hope he doesn’t do something as twisted as “Oldboy”, don’t get me wrong great film; but the whole reason for revenge put me off an Asian actor I was growing very fond of.

Yeah, I agree. I think he's very much in demand right now, and was offered the role in G.I Joe (which I agree may well be a bad move - however, it was most likely necessary to break into the U.S film empire)

I'd also love to see him in something similar to Cut, definitely something "deeper" and with more substance.

Hmmn, now you have me intrigued as to which actor you are mentioning re: Oldboy - is it Ji-tae Yu??

He was pretty good in A Bittersweet Life..

Heck yeah- I love that film! And he was great in it, no doubt. I feel it's deeper and much more substantial than G.I Joe and that his acting talents are put to better use in A Bittersweet Life. He's stretched more as an actor, and it shows his talents don't just lie in running around, kicking, fighting and killing (which, granted, he IS great at!) lol
I'd just love to see him in more of something similar.
