IRIS

In anticipation of his new drama IRIS, I was wondering which of his other dramas would you recommend I watch first (assuming I could find it with subs)? I've only seen him in movies, but I would love to watch one of his dramas. BTW, if you have any info on IRIS, do share please~

beautiful days is pretty good, if you like korean dramas - lots of crying and misunderstanding and star crossed lovers. lbh and choi ji woo are good actors so it is much more watchable than some k-dramas.

all in is not so great - there were a ridiculous number of 180 degree turns in the plot, even for a k-drama, and it felt like they were writing the script the night before they shot it. plus it's really long - i admit i fast forwarded through some of the later parts.

i haven't watched any of lbh's dramas from his pre-army heartthrob days. i like him better as he's gotten older - i much prefer him as a bittersweet life-style badass, i must say.

both beautiful days and all in are available w/ english subs for rent from cinflix and tigercinema, or to watch online at sites like crunchyroll. you can buy them, but bootleg fansub versions are sometimes unintelligible and official versions are crazy expensive.

and if you google "iris k-drama", you can find info on it at sites like d-addicts and dramawiki.

You should totally see his drama 'Dream Racers'. It was released in 1995, back when he was young. It also starred a rookie Jung Woo Sung(Lee's co star in The Good, The Bad and the Weird)as his younger brother and a up and coming Lee Young Ae(Jewel in the Palace, Sympathy for Lady Vengeance)as his older sister. It's a bit old fashioned, but the drama itself is so good.

After watching the first episode of "IRIS," I was rolling my eyes. I was still rolling my eyes half way through the second episode...but then by the end of the second show, I thought it was badass. Not a fan of Mr. Lee though. (If you read one of my recent posts on another message board you can probably figure out who or what I am a fan of.)

I'm in Korea, and I've seen about 4 episodes of Iris so far. It looks like a knock-off of 24, complete with the random camera zooms and constantly heightened tension. They killed off the really annoying girl with artificially round fish eyes, thank god.

One thing that really bothers me is that it is shot in 30 or 60 frames per second. It looks like straight up video as a result, regardless of how good the framing or lighting might be. In other words, it looks a lot cheaper than it is because some stupid joker didn't shoot the show in 23.98/24 fps. The trailer for the next upcoming show in January looked so much better because it was shot in 23.98.

I see that they are planning a feature version of Iris. I hope to god they shoot it in 23.98.
