HL as Allan Quatermain?

What do you think?

Allan Quatermain (originally from the 1885 novel King Solomon's Mines, and seen in various other movie incarnations over the years), is supposed to be an English-born professional game hunter. In the original novel, he has just turned 55 (Hugh Laurie is currently 54).

There have been several movie versions of Allan Quatermain, but none have been very true to the novels. Most notably, Richard Chamberlain (an American), and Sean Connery (a Scottsman).

The last time the character was seen in a feature film, was in 2003's The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen where he is portrayed by then 73-old Sean Connery, in an alternate victorian time period.

I think it would be great to see this character faithfully recreated for modern audiences, and I think Hugh Laurie would make a great Quatermain. Discuss!

Humm...interesting. I've read most of the books...he's the right age and build...slim but muscular...but very tall for the character. Other that that, I could see him in the part.
