You can ask the same question about JJ Abrams. Some people seem to keep failing upward. It has got to be some kind of insider thing; some form of nepotism.
shareHollywood is very much a closed-book society of collaborators. Kurtzman may make crappy products but they make money and he delivers on time. It's not a huge fete to brag about, but once you're in and you're considered capable you're pretty much gonna ride high. That's not to say that many other insiders squandered their privileges due to substance abuse or personality disorders that rubbed powerful people the wrong way, resulting in lost work and reputation.
shareI don't know for sure if Kurtzman is a net positive for bringing in money; many of the things he has done have lost money or are about to lose money and audience. only some of the things he has done have made good money and often time that was because of other people being involved in those projects.
