She banned her child from watching Cinderella and The Little Mermaid???

I know this is almost a year old, but I just stumbled across it today, and it's just another sign how ridiculous society is getting.

What the hell is wrong with these people??? Feminism has gone full psychotic at this point. People like this are intent on driving a wedge between men and women, and it's so obnoxious to me.

So Keira won't let her daughter watch an old Disney movie because the woman gets saved by a man, and in her opinion Ariel gives up her voice in The Little Mermaid...for a man?

How about this new feminist lesson for the men out there from Keira: If you see a woman in trouble, leave her alone and let her save herself. Maybe if you see someone forcing themselves on a woman in an alley way, just let it go (Frozen anyone? Lol), and let her handle it. She'll be fine.

How about these feminist messages for young women from Keira: 1) Falling in love is wrong, especially with a man. 2) Be stubborn as hell and never ask for help, especially from someone with a penis. 3) Be an angry schrew for the rest of your life.

Ladies...grow up, be strong, be what you want to be...but be happy, fall in love, don't be afraid of being vulnerable, or asking for help if you need it, and for the love of god, try your best to not be a 3rd wave feminist like Keira Knightly, who rose to fame and made her meal ticket playing the classic "damsel in distress" Elizabeth Swann in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Maybe she banned that movie from her children as well? Hypocrite.

Keira must have had her woke alarm ring in her brain and shut the movie off before getting to the ending of it. Ariel was the first Disney princess who ever laid a hand on the villain personally instead of waiting to be rescued. She even saves Eric from being vaporized by the trident. If you want to encourage your daughters to become strong independent women this is the Disney movie you should show to them. It actually broke the formula of the helpless princess syndrome Disney had been doing for decades.

I did not even come close to saying any of that. Not even a little bit. YOU sold yourself on it, because that must be how you see being in a loving relationship with someone.

Women should be able to fall in love and not think that it makes them “weak”, the way you and people like Keira are presenting it. It’s a wonderful part of life. There is nothing wrong with being vulnerable sometimes either. Some of you people on here are so backwards in the way your minds interpret everything, no wonder society is going in the shitter.

And personally, if you are on the “other side”, I know for certain that I said the right thing. Feel free to ban classic Disney movies in your house like Keira. Yeah, movies like Cinderella and The Little Mermaid are the real problem out there for young girls, simply because they want to fall in love. 🙄 Piss off with that garbage.

Finding love is a big part of a lot of people’s happiness in life. It seems like bitter people like yourself think finding love is sexist or something. I can’t really pinpoint why finding someone special is a bad thing to you, but with each message this conversation gets more pointless.

Pick every word of what I wrote apart and twist it however you’d like. I really don’t care. I stand by every single word. Banning Cinderella and The Little Mermaid from your daughters is laughable and pathetic.

I won't fuck with you too much about it since you at least provided a reasonable response, so I'll just say I disagree.

Do Disney movies sometimes show an idealized, unrealistic portrait of love and romance? Sure. But that is the case with basically every romantic comedy, too. In fact, films as a whole are full of fantasy. They provide us with escapist entertainment. That's why most people watch them and cherish the medium.

But they also give people the illusion that they are finding out about the world and how human beings work ... that is now more than ever before media is used to socialize, or brainwash people.

That's why so many groups are demanding that studios change their casting and break up stereotypes, and then when they do it, people complain they are woke, because they are attached to those stereotypes.

I have never seen The Little Mermaid or Cinderella for that matter although I am of course familiar with the story of the latter. I actually agree with Keira Knightley about not letting her daughter watch Cinderella but not because it reinforces the patriarchy. Rather because it gives little girls the very unhelpful idea that they are all little Princesses. Talk about a big fat entitlement message.

When I was a child, in the 1960s and 1970s, it was fashionable for the local mothers to say that they refused, REFUSED, to buy their daughters Barbie Dolls! They seemed to think that if they bought the kids Barbies, then they'd grow up stupid, materialistic, and develop eating disorders.

Parents have always been like this, trying to impress and shade each other with silly ideas, and making totally ridiculous assumptions about what simple childhood activities will do to their precious little screaming monsters.

She grew up to be a lawyer, unbelievably successful, and is now married with a beautiful daughter of her own.

I completely agree with this statement. That’s why things like Barbie, Cinderella, and The Little Mermaid aren’t the issue. “That doll”, that chunk of plastic, “tweeking” some kid’s head is now up to parental responsibility. When and if the child shows an issue, you give them the “you’re fine the way you are” speech or any other assurances that they need. You don’t ban Barbie.

I've always believed "All things in moderation", or as you put it, "most things in life are in the middle".

I see absolutely no harm in letting your kid have a couple of toys you don't like yourself, as long as they've got other toys and interests and maybe you take the trouble to discuss things like the evils of materialism and healthy body images with your kid every now and then. But if your kid won't play with anything but the stupid Barbie and won't watch anything but those horrible animated Barbie films, it's time to turn off the TV, and take the kid outside to develop other interests. (And to smear the Barbies with gravy and leave them by the dog's bowl.)

The thing is, the parents who go around bragging about what they forbid their kid aren't doing it because they genuinely fear that some toy or movie will make them lose control over the little monster, they're doing it to score holier-than-thou points off of other parents.

I was a tomboy and LOVED Barbie and everything Barbie as well! I had it all. Never in my youth did I ever think "I want to grow up to be stupid, materialistic and develop eating disorders". I grew up to be the total opposite of that and I credit my parents for that. 😊 We watched all the Disney films and loved them. I played all kinds of video games such as Mortal Combat, Resident Evil, Grand Theft Auto, etc.

As my daughter stated earlier, it really is about how the parents raise their kids and not what objects or material comes into their lives.

I TOTALLY agree with you about parents being lazy and shitty and that affecting their children combined with movies, toys, etc.

What it all comes down to is that it doesn't really matter what movies or shows your kids watch or what games they play or what music they listen to. It's all up to the parents to teach their kids the difference between fantasy and reality. The biggest influence in a child's life is their same sex parent. That's who they really learn from.

It's not meant to be sexist in any way, it's true. My mom is awesome and I grew up knowing I wanted to be just like her. It doesn't mean my dad had nothing to do with my upbringing or that he was a bad father. I got lucky with both of my parents but my mom always had more of an influence on me.
